5 month old rolling onto stomach when sleeping

Ok, my 5 mo old has been rolling from his back onto his stomach during his sleep. I found him today during his nap face down in the corner of his crib. I swear he looked like he could barely get any air. It is making me so nervous. He doesn't really roll onto his back once he is in this situation.
WWYD...I am consantly checking on him.
TIA

Most peds will tell you that once they are able to roll over themselves it is safe for them to sleep on their stomachs. Chat Icon

Re: 5 month old rolling onto stomach when sleeping

Same EXACT thing with me!! My DD is going to be 5 months next week and a couple days ago I found her on her belly!!

She DOES NOT know how to get back to her back. I realized though that she wakes during the night crying if she wants to turn over and cant-- I usually help her onto her back.

Im curious to see what others have to say

I just spoke to my ped about stomach sleeping at DS's 5 month appointment. He said once they can roll over there is no way of preventing it. He also said that at 6 months the risk of SIDS drops dramatically. I'm still a bit nervous and bought the angel care monitor.

I went through the exact same thing. I was petrified and checked her constantly. My ped said to me "You can't rotisserie her all night long" and assured me it was fine. I still rotisseried her for a whileChat Icon She's now a year and still a tummy sleeper.

My DS started doing this at 4 months and every night like a maniac I would go in there and move him to his side, then just move his head, and then I just stopped. He was fine! That's just the way he likes to sleep...on his stomach. If he's strong enough to roll over on his stomach he's strong enough to lift his head to breath.

Thanks everyone. I just wish he could roll himself onto his back better and I would feel better.
