I think it's easy to say "why don't they just adopt.. " or to disprove of their choices if you are not the one in it. I'm sure for a couple experiencing infertility, they were AWARE of the option to adopt. I'm sure by choosing this path, they did it with the thought that it was the best one for them at the time.
Besides that, it's not like adoption is a quick fix either. Along with it comes the grieving process of not carrying OR having a biological child. As someone who was on the path to surrogacy for a year, I can tell you that coming to terms with either of these things is not easy! (although my child would be biologically mine) .. Adoption is so much more than just waking up one morning and deciding it's what you want to do. It's a grueling process.. I know someone who lost 2 babies in the process because one birth mother changed her mind and the other had a still birth. This was after they paid ALL the prenatal fees and got nothing in return.
Long story short - Good for them!!
eta: What disgusts me more is young girls who give birth in bathroom and throw their babies in the trashcan. These people want to give their babies a loving home ... I'm sorry, I can't look down on that!
100% agreed!!!
1000% agreed. I dare say that all or most of the women here saying it is wrong have either never attempted pregnancy or never dealt with IF. The urge to have your own child is great. Hopefully these poeople have a plan should something happen to them

61 year old gives birth to twins
It bothers me that it was a life long dream to be a mother. The article almost makes it sound like now that she gave birth and was a Mom her dream was complete. That just rubs me wrong. I don't know...I think it's to old. If something happened to me or my husband one of our siblings would raise our kids. I wouldn't risk my kids having to bury us and my Mom. I know anything can happen, but as you get older you're talking about dying of natural causes vs an accident. It's just not a choice I would make.

I totally agree. Unless you have gone through IF you honestly can't grasp what that does to a person, a couple. I figure I would have kids by 27. Well that didn't happen. I got married late and then discovered I was infertile. I want badly to have another child and at 38 I still don't feel I am too old.

Good for her. I feel that these babies came into the world into a very loving family, regardless of their mother's age. We can't say that about all babies born into the world today.

*shrug* it's not something I would do, but I'm happy for her and her husband.

Re: 61 year old gives birth to twins
I think 61 is too old. Sorry. And I think its way different than someone going through infertility in their 40's as opposed to SIXTIES. Most women are through menopause in their 50's and there is a biological reason for that...
I just think that while science and medical advancement is a WONDERFUL thing in so many ways, I just don't know how to feel about someone having a baby at that age. Would anyone feel different if it were a woman in their 70's? 9 years difference? May sound crazy but with medical advancement i'm sure it can be done.
I will say that I'm sure they will love and care for those babies better than others...I think they have a lot of love to give to those children and that is a terrific thing, but the age really throws me off. Just my own personal feelings but I hope they are happy and do live to see a ton of their children's lives.

Re: 61 year old gives birth to twins
I think it's too old. I also think about things like the statistics of low birth weight, parental age, and disabilities. But that's an occupational hazard. But if her kids were to have any disabilities, god forbid, I wonder if she would have the health, stamina, and longevity in general for them.
