This is a little late but what is/was with the young girls and SHORT shorts?

I've been meaning to post this and kept forgetting. All summer I was horrified at the teenage and even pre-teen girls wearing shorts that barely (and in some cases didn't even) covered their ass! Am I the only one who found this really inappropriate? My mother would have NEVER let me walk out of the house like that, but over the summer I saw many young girls at BBQ's (with both of their parents) almost showing their ass when they'd bend over. I saw one girl out if public who couldn't have been more than 11 at the oldest. I even saw girls dressed like this in church.

Do the parents just not care anymore?

It bothers me too... esp now that I have a dd and I wonder to myself what's going to happen as she gets older - if I don't allow her to dress however she wants (in theory) will she be shunned by other girls in school? I have so much time to worry about this lol but I can't help and think of it when i see the girls walking by my house, at the bus stop, etc.

DH commented last week on that, as we were passing the local high school on opening day.
Why aren't the parents doing anything about this ?
MY ass would be permenently red from the spanking I would get it I ever dared walk out of the house like that.
It's just not appropriate dress for anyone to be wearing daisy dukes, unless you're going to be swinging around a pole.

I saw a woman on 6th Ave in the city wearing short shorts with a nice blouse and longish jacket. Still not appropriate, still looks slutty no matter how you dress it up.

OMG..this bothers me too. I work in a school and they come here like that as well. And yesterday A girl prob 16 was wearing a hot pink mini skirt with a low cut type shirt and huge wedges. Like she was going clubbing. Not appropriate! I mean all the boys were looking and even the custodians mouths were dropped open! What kind of parents are buying these clothes and letting them wear it?? Have a little class!!! Last month at my cousins sweet 16 I could not believe how tight these girls dresses were and how short!!

What I find ironic are the girls and women who wear shorts with PINK or JUICY written across their ass. Then they get pissssed off when they catch men staring at their ass.

i saw this all over the place too over the summer and it bothers the beegeezus out of me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
one girl on the train, her shorts were soooo short that her ass cheeks were touching the actual train seat (this woould skeeve me out to no end...)and when she got up she kept wiping down her ass - but why wear those shorts at all to begin with!!!!!! that makes no sense! i see so many young girls wearing them to and i think to myself - do parents not see what they buy their children? do they not care? now t hat I know I am having a DD, i don't care if kids shun her or not, she will not wear stuff like this as long as i still pay for it. Kids will always find something to pick on, if its not your clothes, it will be your hairstyle or your purse - something! they'll get over it - move on and all live normal lives...

I talk about this all the time- especially since i have a DD now.
I remember being 22 years old, and my mother giving me a hard time about an outfit I was wearing out to the clubs.
Yet, lately it seems like parents let their 12 year olds out in stuff that is even worse!

It's disturbing.
Who is buying them these slutty clothes?

I see pics of my 13 year old niece on FB- and they are all going to bar mitzvahs at this age- you have to see what the girls wear to those!
No exageration- 6 inch stripper heels with dresses so short you can practically see their ass and coo-kas hanging out.
And they walk into temple like that.

Where are the parents to these girls?

I mean at what point when you see these short shorts - be it when you are buying them for your child or when she walks out of the house with them on or when you are throwing them in the wash do you STOP and say - wait whose are these?

Letting your pre-teen or teenage daughter walk out of the house with her asss cheeks hanging out is poor parenting. T

here are sick fuccks in this world, you are drawing attention to your child when she is dressed like this. Just because a store sells them doesn't mean they are appropriate.

I see it in the business world as well. I see young out of college girls walking to work in short mini skirts with stiletto heels like they just got out of a club.

When your business skirt hits close to your crotch and a bend to pick something up will show us your thong its time to think twice about your choice in attire.

What shocks me more is going to the mall and seeing a young girl with tiny shorts walking with what I would assume is her mother.

What I do understand though is that if girls want to buy shorts in the junior sections or stores, ALL are super short! You can't find any that are at a reasonable length.

In one way, I think, well... Why can't a girl wear short shorts? It's summer. It's very hot out. When paired with flip flops (not heels) they can look innocent. So here is where I wonder if maybe since some of us don't have daughters at that age yet, it lOoks worse to us? Maybe if I had a daughter at 14, I wouldn't view it as dressing inappropriate and just three norm, you know?

Question to teachers/parents.... Do schools ever discuss code of dress?

Do they ever send home notes warning child will be sent home if dressed inappropriately?

Yes, I completely agree! My mom and I were just discussing this. It is so inappropriate and slutty. I would NEVER have been allowed out of the house looking like that.

I am a teacher and have had to address this with some students and parents. The parents almost always side with the daughter claiming "All of the stores only have these short shorts, there are no alternatives"

I was raised pretty conservative but we were taught it doesn't matter if everyone else has their ass hanging out, we're not going to. I admit I haven't looked at shorts in the older children's or junior's sections since I was that age. I know Abercrombie only sells super skimpy clothes (at least in the summer) but I would think SOME store must sell shorts that are at least 2 inches long. What I see on these girls basically ends at the crotch.

Styles change constantly so I'm banking that this fad will be over long before DD is that age. Otherwise, she'll be out of style I'm afraid.

I was at a baptism where this 12 year old had such a short skirt she went to kiss the baby and her thonged butt came out of the skirt. I only know she was 12 since her mom was talking so loud afterwards saying how pretty she is for a 12 year old.

I am at a high school and the students get dress-code violations. There have also been announcements over the PA during 1st period where students are instructed to stand up so the teachers can view their outfits and if they are in violation, they get sent to the main office to call home and get a new outfit. I think it's great but they need to continue with the random checks. Regarding dress-code violations, they get detention (in addition to having to cover up outfit.) If they don't serve detention, they get Saturday School. If they don't serve that, they get suspended.
Some of the outfits I see are truly jaw-dropping. What's even more astounding to me though is when I'll see a student in an obviously inappropriate outfit later on in the day. I never understand how this student got through half a school day, or more, and no teacher said or did anything about it??

Okay.

I do get why people are upset, but I can NOT find shorts that are appropriate for me to wear on certain occassions. The shorts sold in stores are ALL daisy duke length.

I think that the change needs to happen in the fashion industry.

I was recently shopping at Bobs Stores and there was a girl who was almost in tears in the dressing room with her mother. They were trying to find shorts she COULD wear to school. She was on the tall side with very long legs and all of the shorts that fit her tiny waist were basically the equivalant of denim underwear on her.

She finally found a pair that wouldn't pass the "fingertip" test but they looked very appropriate on her.

I am not choosing a "side" but I don't think that every case is bad parenting or girls wanting to be whores.

See I have had no problem finding shorts that are appropriate in Kohls and JC Pennys. I even shop in the Juniors Dept. I really think it depends on what store you are shopping in. I even found the long shorts there. I think if you are shopping in mandees, too cute, forever 21, abercrombie or even Aeropastale then the shorts you find will be up your arse! LOL. So when a parent says all the shorts look like that they just arent in the right store. LOL. Time to tell your DD sorry honey but you cant have the name brand ones and bring her to JC pennys or Kohls, Target or Walmart. Hell I never had named brand stuff growing up! And $45 for a pair of shorts that look like underwear!! Buy a pair of jeans for that price!!

i know its hard, but i know for a fact, that Kohls, JC Penny and Macys all sell shorts that are of normal length (what most of us would consider normal and would def pass a fingertip length test). I go shopping with my niece who is in the age range and yes, the junior section is outrageous. i lead her on over to the regular women's section and she usually just gets the smallest size they have and buy them from there. It may be difficult, but not impossible to find these shorts. And just because that is all these stores carry, that, IMO, does not justify buying them

Ehh I don't buy the "can't find shorts that aren't short in stores" argument.

I have seen girls with proper length shorts on.

It all depends on the store you are shopping in - Abercrombie is notorious for their short shorts as is AE.

I 100% agree that the industry is to blame as well.

I also know for a fact that VS sells shorts in 4 different lengths- from scandalous to frumpy!
And they come in size 0 I believe- so they CAN be found if you really want to..
