8.5 months old & waking up every 2 hours like a newborn??? (LONG)
DS has been sleeping through the night for about 2 months now with the occasional 3am feeding here & there but for the most part he would sleep from about 9-9:30 to about 6 or 7 am. We give him a bath, feed him read a book and then put him in his bed and he would play and talk himself to sleep. He had no problems putting himself to sleep. He also has a lovey that he sleeps with.
However, ever since DS learned to pull himself up in his crib (just last week), he has been waking up numerous times at night pulling himself up and fussing until one of us comes in the room to lay him done. BUT he won't stay lying down. When we go in there to lay him down he immediately turns over to get back up. The first few nights we were eventually able to get him to stay lying down after about 10 minutes of soothing him, but last night the only way for us to get him to lay down was to give him a bottle to which he will fall asleep but then repeat the whole thing all over again 2-3 hrs later. I got NO sleep last night at all. He had 6 oz of formula before bed and then had 2- 4 oz bottles throughout the night. He is eating the same if not more during the day than he was a few weeks ago so I don't why he is doing this and it only started the same day he learned to pull himself up. We tried ignoring him but then eventually he cries and starts screaming which is not normal for him. he is not a crier, he usually just fusses.
Anyone have any suggestions???
I am considering doing CIO but we rent the 1st floor of a HUGE high ranch & our landlord's son lives upstairs and she is here about 10 days each month herself. I dont think they will like it we let DS CIO in the middle of the night.
My Mom thinks it is teething because DS does not have any teeth yet but i don't that is it. he is not fussing or crying as if he is in pain. Should i give him tylenol or motrin before bed to see if it will help if iti s teething?
Please help! I want my sleep back!

I would love some ideas too! I have the same problem with a 7 month old who rolls onto his tummy and forgets how to roll back in the middle of the night. He is doing all the same stuff and CIO is out for us at that time since his sister is right next door
ANYONE???

I am in the same boat xcept DD is not standing-- she just won't go to sleep and wakes up numerous times a night once she does fall asleep. I am so exhausted all the time!

Re: 8.5 months old & waking up every 2 hours like a newborn??? (LONG)
Well, i was desperate, lol...i hired a sleep trainer because i had a major sleep issue with DD and it is always worse around milestones...my DD slept through the night (or so i thought it was) until 5 months old..for over three months, she would wake crying every 2 hours and it was awful, naps sucked you name it..or one day was great and the next was awful..or couple good/bad..anyhow, i was at my end..i was so sleep deprived i was getting nuts..no kidding... So, they came in and basically spent hours going over baby, sleep cycles, etc...and what to expect at that age..DD is 9 months today... Long story short, we put her on a rigid schedule from when she wakes, bottles always after a nap and waking and when she takes breakfest, lunch dinner, naps are scheduled and so the toughest 2 weeks of my life began(BTW, these people were on today show, etc...really, really good people) I hate listening to DD cry ..worst thing ever, but going at it half way and back in and out was not what i should have been doing, that is why CIO didnt work...she cried rough for a bit the first night but she is always put down awake and i dont go in from 7pm-7am(during the 2 weeks, no leeway at wake up times) well, i am happy to say it was worth it, she sleeps almost 12 hour stretches, she still will test me at naps but i stick to my guns..she has to be comfortable learning to go back to sleep and man, when i say she will push it some days, she will scream a whole nap...we havent had that since the 2 weeks but it was awful...i seriously wantedt o cave in but these ppl are available to call/support you and they rock...best money i have ever spent in my life because i sleep, baby sleeps and we are all much happier...she is standing like a pro, some nights she will wake up and stand in her crib but will go right back out...i give her motrin for teething and all along i was always thinking teeth but hey, she is getting 2 more and still sleeping..hang in htere, stick to a plan and that is really the key...with sleep training, any deviation and you could be back at square one..for example, i was so proud she was getting up at 640 i figured close enough, well, next day she got up at 620 and the following at 545! I had to go back to really following it and boom, one morning of crying but now she is back on track..pretty wild but they are so smart and they need their sleep!!!!!!

Plus, one key is they have to learn how to get back down from standing etc...there was a point when DD was sitting up half the night..she just wouldnt lay down..well, she learned as it was during this sleep training..it actually was good to go cold, not go in at all...the other thing is you need to set the environment up..good room temp, no blankets, binkies etc..nothing but a lovey and dark as possible room, even if you have to use garbage bags..i put DD in light footie PJ's keeping her room around 69 degrees.

Thanks for the suggestion but I don't have the money to pay for a sleep trainer. Glad to hear it worked for you though.
Anyone else have any suggestions?

Re: 8.5 months old & waking up every 2 hours like a newborn??? (LONG)
We are having the same issue with DS. He has never really been a great sleeper. He is getting teeth so right now I'm blaming it on that. Its hard for me to do CIO because if I let him cry more than 10-15 min he wakes up DD and then I have to crying babies at 2am. I'm hoping its just a phase and it stops. I have heard that at milestones sleeping gets messed up because they want to keep doing the new thing. I just keep thinking to myself he isn't going to keep getting up forever. I know its not much in terms of advice, but at least you know you're not alone.

This was a little snappy-she spelled out for you exactly what they did. Maybe you should read her post again
I will say that I have read when a baby goes through dvevelopmental milestones they tend not to sleep as well. I would try CIO and if your LL has a problem with it re-evaluate

I wasn't trying to be snappy. I simply said I don't have the money for it, but i'm glad it worked for her. She spell out most of they did, not everything. She said "So, they came in and basically spent hours going over baby, sleep cycles, etc...and what to expect at that age" That is not exactly giving me ALL information.
Please don't start drama cause I'm not looking for it. This is exactly why I usually lurk & don't post questions that often.
