MRI Results*** Updated in 1st Post - Potentially evil issue with Katie...Dr. Mark Mittler of Schneider's Children's Hospital...
We have a potentially really serious situation with Katie. Aside from the fact that I'm on the verge of a breakdown...I was wondering if any one knew anything about Dr. Mark Mittler of Schneider's Children's Hospital? Good...bad...indifferent?

We took Katie to the ped for follow up today for her ear infection and they also did a well visit. Her reg ped was not in so we had another dr - who found something they didnt like - she has an indentation/dimple about 1 inch above her anus and it has a tuft of hair growing out of it and its been there since birth but its not closing and now w/ the hair they are very concerned. they actually called the specialist at schneider's childrens hospital for us and made us an appointment. we're meeting with the neuro surgeon on Wed morning at 10am. he will most likely send us right over for an MRI. they are very worried and it sounds like spina bifida, which runs in my family. they're also worried that the indentation is open and connected to her spine which could get bacteria trapped and lead to spinal menegitis.
there are a whole slew of things it could be - all evil if you ask me.
DH is very blaze' about it all which is pissing me off. He's accusing me of being obsessed because i came home from work and spent 2 hrs researching it. DH and my Mom also gave me crap about taking off Wed morning to take Katie to the specialist - they said because I've been at my new job for 3 1/2 months and I took off Friday (for mental health day) and took 2 half days to take my Dad to the dr in connection with his cancer diagnosis. Im so annoyed at both of them for questioning my decision to take off AND also for making light of something that could potentially be very serious. It's not like I'm taking off to go shopping and on top of that I made sure my work is done and no one has to cover for me.
Sorry for the vent, I'm very upset about this and worried and just totally disgusted with DH right now.
UPDATED 11/15/06
We took Katie to the neoruolgist today and he examined her. He said it's a CLOSED neural tube defect, not open and not spina bifida. She has what's called a sacral dimple with tufts of hair in it and he thinks that it is NOT connected right to her spine but we wont know until he does surgery for sure how deep it goes. It can get infected and can ooze cause problems in the future so he wants to go in a remove it. We have to have an MRI done and the nurses are trying to schedule that ASAP because we have a surgery date of November 28th. It should be out-patient surgery if it is not connected to her spine but like I said we wont know until the surgery takes place. There are risks w/ the surgery but he said on a scale of 1-10 this surgery is very low - like a 1 and doesn't foresee any problems.
It is a relief to hear that its not spina bifida but I'm scared about her having surgery. She'll have her surgery on 11/28 and my Dad has his surgery on 12/6 so I guess we'll be spending a lot of time at LIJ.
I will update you more when I have more info but thats all I really know right now.
I have to run and gte to work by 1230 so I only get docked half a day.Thank you for your prayers!!!!

UPdate #2 on 11/15 - got the call from the neurologist - she has her MRI tomorrow at 330pm. They will sedate her, wish us luck that nothing is worse than it looks at face value - and that my little girl reacts OK to being sedated...
Update Again - November 16th - MRI done.
Katie had her MRI today. I think I cried more than she did. She was starving poor thing - last botle was 930am and her MRI was at 4pm! They sedated her for the MRI, which was about 20 mins long and she came out of it slowly within about 15 mins. She was still groggy but took her bottle and smiled at me. She slept the whole way home and is still sleeping. The doctor will get the report tomorrow and call us with th results. Please keep  for us!

MRI Results Update 11/18/06
We FINALLY got Katie's MRI results. The sacral dimple does NOT go to the spine AND it looks like it is a CLOSED neural tube defect! ALL good news. No, GREAT news!!
This should not ghave any effect on her life at all - it wont slow her down developmentally at all and should not be an issue for her once we have the surgery. We are having the surgery to cut out the sacral dimple because it can get infected and painful cysts can form in it and she can end up having a LOT of pain from it. Dr. Mittler recommends doing it now when she is little and he said she won't remember any of it.
So we're a go for her pre-op testing on 11/27 (Happy Anniversay to us) and surgery on 11/28.
We are SO relieved that this is not spina bifida and not on her spine. OMG the relief... Thank YOU SO MUCH EVERYONE! I mean it!!! I don't know what I would have done without this board and you all. Thank you for all your replies and FMs

i dont know that doctor, but i am very familiar with schneider children hospital. i live a block away from there. and when my daugher was 2 months old. she was extremly sick with rsv. they saved her life. my prayers are out to your lil girl and your family.

I don't know him, but this site allows you to see a doctor's education and if they have been sued for malpractice. I find it works best if you just put in the name, sometimes they don't list the town their office is in.

I know nothing about that specific Dr, but I give Schneiders rave reviews. I have dealt with several Drs there for my son, and my boys were born there due to a heart issue they saw while I was pg with them. Every Dr I have dealt with has been nothing short of fantastic!!!!!

My cousins receive great care for their toddler who has Cooleys Anemia at Schneiders. I don't know of that specific Dr but wanted to send you my prayers
