My son uses a neurologist at Schneider's who we have the utmost confidence in. When my friend needed a referral, this neurologist recommended Dr. Mittler.

Holy cr@p as if you needed more on your plate than you have already! I'm glad someone is taking the doctor's advice seriously.
Everyone deals with potentially scary stuff differently. Don't be too hard on DH - sounds like he's opting for the denial route.

Did the pediatrician order a sonogram in the hospital when your daughter was first born? My daughter has a similar indentation just above her butt crack and her pediatrician did a sono in the hospital before we took her home, just to make sure that her spine was completely covered/closed. It definitely gave us peace of mind. We have not seen any incidence of hair growth in that area, tho.
From what we were told, these dimples are very common in a percentage of the population...so many people have them and most of the time, they are totally benign and not indicative of anything being wrong. I truly hope this is the case with your daughter, too.
I'm sorry that I don't have any experience or info on that doctor...but, I know the hospital is top notch.

Kathy again, a million hugs and prayers. You are 100% right for taking the day off, screw the job, this is your Katie Bug. And Barbara is right everyone handles stress differently. My DH is the same way, well except for when he reaches his boiling point and becomes a loon.

I would be doing the same thing you are and be worried out of my mind..
When Aidan was born I was changing his diaper and noticed a tiny little dimple just above his butt crack and questioned the Dr. 1 Ped in the practice wanted to do nothing. Another wanted to send him for a sonogram to make sure that the hole was closed and did not go to his spine. It was called a Sacral Dimple.
So we had the the sonogram and all was fine thank God. They told me, as someone said (cLaud?) that it is fairly common. As I talked to people about it, alot of my friends/family were speaking up and saying "oh yeah, I ahve a little hole/sinus like thing there!" I had no idea never saw one.

I hope its nothing serious. What you described made me think about the times I had a pilonidal cyst. It's at the base of the spine (aka your butt crack) and gets clogged with hair and can become enlarged and infected. It was nothing serious for me, but I had to get the abcess drained.
I had this too! Did not have it fully removed just drained.

My son has a dimple too- and my ped recommended Dr. Mittler, who is great, btw. Very thorough and reassuring.
Has your daughter had a sonogram of the area?
