Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really???
IDK.... I still think it's ridiculous.
My daycare provides a hot lunch program, but I choose not to give their lunch to my DD. I send her with her own lunch and snack every day. They also have a juice machine in the room, and I've asked they not give her juice. I send her with her own sippy cups every day - 3 water cups and one milk cup. I've never been asked for a note.

That's crazy. I'm not a big fan of giving DS juice and neither is his ped. Has nothing to do with his weight, it's just unnecessary sugar IMO.

"According to State guidelines we have to give 2 food componants for snack. The juice that we use is 100% juice so we can count it as a fruit. So first and foremost this is a State guideline. And yes you are correct that since we are on the Federal Food Program we also have to give 2 food componants. According to both agencies 1/2 cup is the proper portion. There are times we will give children a little more if they are still wanting more but do limit that as well. If the doctor states that the boys cannot have juice we will abide by that, but will ask that on days juice is on the menu that you supply a proper substatuite. This would be a 1/2 cup of fruit or vegatable per child. When a child has a food allergey or diet need we do everything possible to provide a substatute but cannot always do so. Throughout the day children are offered water. This is always done after we come in from outside. I totally agree with you that children should receive more water in their diet so the teachers are instructed to do so.
*substitute
As much as I'd really want to send the first part of your response, I'd probably hold back. However, I would definitely write:
You will have the doctor's note, as well as fresh fruit as a substItute to give my children. Thanks."

Wow I would definitely write back. And what is with emailing, can't she CALL you and discuss this?
And nice that the director misspelled substitute TWICE... substatuite and substatute are both wrong!

I get the regs and all of that. fine.
but one, she can't spell.
and TWO, she is NOT NICE.
she's so worried about her funding.
she's gonna lose a nice little chunk (or twin chunk, as it were) when I take my kiddos elsewhere!

Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really??? UPDATE WITH HER RESPONSE
I understand this is a requirement-which don't even get me started on the fruit juice substituting for a fruit but her response was snarky, rude and if you stated she has acted this way before it is very "un-Christian like" Aren't there any church based pre-schools around you?

WOW, just WOW, holly rudeness!!! and I can't believe that you have to go through this.
OH and :
"The juice that we use is 100% juice so we can count it as a fruit. "
ummm, really? I don't think so 100% Juice is NOT fruit! so you can NOT count it as fruit (I don't care if this is a "State guideline")

Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really??? UPDATE WITH HER RESPONSE
OMG, Thank you for validating my feelings -- Anthony thinks I am being too sensitive I swear, he is such a FRIGGIN MAN sometimes........
As much as I hate to leave the teacher they have, I hate the feeling that I can't even voice a concern without her snarky reply is making me seriously consider moving them out. There isn't another christian-based center that I know of, but there is a 5-star center which is right by my house, which I think I will get in touch with. God, I hate this.....

It seems like christian-based is important to you guys, but these people are not any christians that I would want instructing my child.

Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really??? UPDATE WITH HER RESPONSE
Honestly, I don't like her response at all. I would find out first if she can really substitute juice as a serving of fruit. These seems like a cop-out to me. Secondly, I would really consider switching. A daycare that thinks it is ok to serve juice instead of fruit would bother me - and to refuse to give your kids water instead at YOUR request, would bother me even more.

Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really??? UPDATE WITH HER RESPONSE
I think she was snippy with you in her reply.
However, as someone who has absolutely no backup daycare, I would encourage you to think twice about getting into it over this, unless you are 100% prepared to take your kids out ASAP.
If this was a one time incident and the only thing that annoyed me about the daycare, I would probably get my note, send the fruit and let it go. If there were other things about the place that irked me, I would probably start shopping around for a new center.
