Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really??? UPDATE WITH HER RESPONSE
I know you mentioned that its a religious school and that's part of the reason you want to keep them in the school. but please take an honest look at your kids day and how much religion they actually learn in school and see if it warrents keeping them in that school.
You can always print out some religious activites online or that currents/oriental trading magazine always has some religious activities.
I didn't like their response and it seems like a pizzing match is in the works if your kids stay there. At least look around for a back-up plan.

I agree the last paragraph is a dig - but I would NOT stoop to her level. Instead I would contact the state licensing agency and confirm that juice is an acceptable substitute for actual fruit (which IMO is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard). If it is not, I would get a copy of the regulations and forward them to her and ask her to please get in compliance immediately so you don't have to report her.

I don't know what I would do. My first instinct would be something along the lines of your response but then I wouldn't want to piss off the people taking care of my kids either. I kind of get her point or maybe get why she tried to make the point. Most people would probably view chocolate cheerios worse than juice since that is true sugar not sugar from a fruit. But I agree it was a dig an not necessary or professional IMO.

OK - I got so angry for you that I actually looked up the NC daycare regs. This is what it says about fruit juice:
10A NCAC 09 .0901(g) Food and beverages with little or no nutritional value served as a snack, such as sweets, fruit drinks, soft drinks, etc., will be available only for special occasions.
But then someplace else it actually says 100% fruit juice is an acceptable substitute for fresh fruit OR a vegetable.

Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really??? UPDATE WITH HER RESPONSE
thats insane...insane....I can't even begin....
my dd, even before she was diabetic, never drank juice (ironically, after she was diagnosed, she had it for the first time!) at daycare - she always had water and we never gave them a note...and just to clarify a 1/2 serving is not a generic amount - it varies depending on the type of fruit or juice (I am now a self taught carb queen b/c of my daughter....)
I would be spitting mad if I was you....I might even call the state and ask if this is true...I have never heard of such a stunt....
Also, her letter was so unprofessional and I would not stoop to her level...you can thank her for her concern but not it was a high fiber cereal and a special treat, just as I am sure she allows students to have on occasion.
Ooh, I am so mad for you right now....

That is the most ridiculous thing ever! Choosing juice over water? Unreal! I'd start looking NOW for a new center, set it all up and say "Goodbye" to this beyotch of a director! So rude!

First of all, I seriously hope she isn't giving the children any spelling lessons, lol.
Secondly, eh if I were you I wouldn't bother w/ the whole stab at me part- it's kind of stooping to her level and will make her feel even more powerful. I WOULD however leave in the nutritional explanation of ur cereal versus her juice. That is kind of giving it back to her but more implicitly instead of explicitly.

I think its terrible that they replace fruit with juice....and then argue about it. Shame on them.

Here is the NY Child Food Program Guideline......
so it is only one half cup serving per day....... our daycare adds water to it to fill up the cup so i don't feel so bad with it being diluted.

Crashing from pregnancy but I am a daycare provider.
They need a drs note because they probably participate in the CAFP(child adult food program, a federal food program) which monitors the food they provide. If a child is not eating or drinking what is served the monitor will want it documented. Without documentation they can lose their funding.
I am in day care too and all you need is a request from the parent not the Dr.

Re: A doctor's note for give them water?? really??? UPDATE WITH HER RESPONSE
That is absurd! You are the parent. You decide what they will and will not consume! Besides, fruit juice, even 100% is no substitute IMO for fresh fruit and it is not filling like actual fruit. Why would they need a note for that? Ridiculous!
