A few questions..new mom related!

Thanks in advance for taking time to answer... I didnt realize how many questions I would come across on a daily basis!!

1. Sadie has been drinking about 3oz every 3-4 hrs, which I am assuming is fairly normal for a newborn. we are usingthe playtex drop ins. When she drinks the bottles she makes loud sucking noises, almost like when you click your tongue on the top of your mouth. Does this mean that she is getting alot of air? If so, how do I correct this?

2. We prop up her matress in her cradle because she hates lying flat on her back. She seems to be restless even like this and well whimper or let out little yelps at times. I tried giving her mylicon drops the last two feedings so I will see how that works. She loves sleeping on my or dh's chest though and seems to be most content like that. Any suggestions?

Thanks again!!!

Here is a pic for good measure!!!

Re: A few questions..new mom related!

First - Congratulations!! She's beautiful.

For the sucking sound, she may still be a little hungry OR may just want to be soothed with the paci. Try adding another 1/4 to 1/2 oz to her bottle. If she doesn't want it - then try the paci.

She may like your chest because of the warmth. Do you swaddle her?

ETA: I just reread your post. I thought she was sucking at the end. Sorry.
Does she seem to be sucking extra hard? Maybe the nipple hole isn't big enough?

Re: A few questions..new mom related!

1. some babies are just noisy eaters Chat Icon as long as there is always formula in the bottle and she isn't getting air i think she is fine. you can put the mylicon in the bottle too before you give it to her. you also might want to try a bottle with a smaller nipple so she gets a better "latch."

2. DS slept best when swaddled and in his sleep positioner. he loved sleeping on our chests, but he had no issues with gas or reflux - it was just his preference. it could be gas, but if she is not fussing during or after a feeding i wouldn't be sure.

she is too cute! enjoy her!

Hey Jen did you get my text? Just make sure you are getting all the air out of the bottles. Lexie still loves snuggling and sleeping with us. Just be careful not to start the habit unless you want to keep it. She is absolutely beautiful!!

the boppy is good for propping up too....we used that alot. Also, I had an infant papasan seat that vibrated and played music....that was a lifesaver when DS was a newborn b/c it kept him elevated - he spent alot of time in that, esp. during the day. AT night we swaddled and used the wedge.

Daddy already has a long conversation with her on how she will NOT be joining the military... LOL.

Re: A few questions..new mom related!

My DD was always a very noisy eater. We used the playtex drop ins too in the beginning. When we switched to Dr. Browns, she was not noisy anymore. I think these bottles have negative pressure or something so babies do not have to suck as hard. Could just be coincidental but she stopped being noisy.

If she;s gassy, I found that Little Tummies Gripe water worked better than the mylicon.

DD loves to be elavated as well and the boppy pillow and the bouncy seat were lifesavors.

your DD is just precious, love the outfit :)

Re: A few questions..new mom related!

well it seems Liam & Sadie have a lot in common. Liam is also eating 3oz every 3-4 hours. He too is a loud sucker. In fact, we're using Playtex Ventaire and are using the slow flow. The nurses said the wide flow would increase hiccups (my little man drinks half the bottle fast, they the other half slow).

Everyone says the loud sucking noise is normal.

Re: A few questions..new mom related!

Our little Jake sounds a lot like Sadie (and Liam).

He takes 3 oz every 4-5 hours. We wake him a lot to feed (but not at night! Chat Icon ). Once he gets going he is a very loud feeder, almost like he is guzzling the bottle. Even after he show signs of hunger (he makes the clicking sounds). At his 1st well visit yesterday, the Dr said he probably isn't hungry, but more needs to be soothed b/c the suckling of the bottle soothes them. I found this to be true, as he does settle down within minutes. If he continued to cry or carry on, that would mean he was still hungry. We use Doc Browns bottles, which he has taken very well too.

At night, we swaddle him with the Swaddle Me. He does whimper a bit, but within 10-15 minutes, he settles himself down for the night. We swaddle him at night, b/c he tends to flail, and then that wakes him. We leave him loose for naps, and let him "choose" where he wants to sleep - ie bassinet, swing, our arms, etc. But at night, its bassinet time, so we use the Swaddle to secure and calm him...I'm sure he'd prefer to sleep on our chests though!

Re: A few questions..new mom related!

Our DD had the same issues with the sleeping. We eventually got the snuggle nest and it was great! They even have one with a small wedge so it can incline for them. It made her feel snuggled in. She hated being swaddled, so this was great for her. Before we got this, the only place we could get her to sleep was the swing (besides on us!)
