A Tree fell on our house! updated with pics!
So last night around midnight DH heard a small noise- turns out the 70-ft spruce in our yard uprooted itself and fell over onto our house, just missing our cars and taking the power lines with it! 
So, we called LIPA, and just got an automated service, so we called the police, who came right away, and then they called LIPA, who came over then said they would send a tree service to clear the branches from the fallen lines- so at 2 am the chainsaw started going... and we then heard some of our neighbors screaming "shut the f up" but they had to clear the lines because they were dangling in the street and it was dangerous... so we finally got power back at 7am and both DH & I had to call in at work because our cars were stuck in the driveway!! 
Anyone want to see pictures? Everyone who drives by our house stops in their car and just stares!!

Is there any damage to your house? You didn't mention. Your neighbors are funny. I mean, I understand it ***** but what are you gonna do?

The outside of the house seems ok so far, although we cant really tell because there is still a huge part of the tree on the roof!!
Now we just found out that because the power was out for so long and it was so cold last night, that the lack of heat caused the pipes to burst upstairs, so now we have a giant leak in the kitchen and dining room (coming from the ceiling!!! Might I add, we just spent a ton of $$ re-doing the ceiling in our kitchen!

OK, they are finally all uploaded! There are more in my album...
The gap where the driveway is, the tree actually went completely accross!! The roots are all the way on the right.
You can kinda see the roots up lifting- the tree guy said we were almost lucky the ground was so cold because it slowed the tree when it started falling...

Here is the ceiling leak...
The dark area on that light fixture is actually water filled up in the bowl!!

OMG this was my BIGGEST fear last night. We have 3 dozen fully grown trees around our house that I kept watching rock back & forth...eeek!
I'm sooo glad you're ok and no one in your family got hurt! I hope your repairs will be painless.

wow, our house is surrounded by huge trees & I'm so afraid of them falling! It was so windy by me the last few days, what town are you in?
I'm glad you guys are ok but what a PITA!!!!

Glad to hear everyone is OK. We had a huge branch fall on our property a few years ago. Luckily for us, it fell away from the house, but I can just image what would have happened if it fell differently, or if a car was passing at the time! 
We had several of the diseased trees cut down soon after this happened. Image Attachment(s):
