Abortion spinoff
For those of you who are pro choice what is your take on mandatory vaccination policy and death with dignity being legalized. Ie, if you are terminally ill you can get a lethal dose of medication to end your suffering from a doctor. I don't want a debate on either of these issues just curious if people believe in bodily anatomy in other circumstance.

Yes! This was part of my point on the other thread. I am reluctantly pro choice, against mandatory vaccination, and in favor of legalizing self medicated euthanasia. I dont see how you can claim bodily autonomy in one instance but not all.

This makes sense and I would agree, except I do believe in mandatory vaccinations. The difference with that one is it crosses over into a public health issue imo. If you don't vaccinate your kids, they can potentially expose my newborn premature DD to deadly illnesses.

Same here. I honestly feel like people should have a choice in how they live their lives and what is done with their bodies.

I hear you, I do. And I do fully vaccinate my kids except for the flu shot. But I just have a hard time saying its ok to decide the fate of one child's life in the name of my own body, but my bodily autonomy rights dont matter if its another child's life. Of course that assumes you believe a fetus is a life (I do but understand many do not). And I will leave it at that since the OP didnt want a debate!

I am pro choice , pro death with dignity and against mandatory vaccines . I think all 3 touch on the same issues of bodily anatomy.

I think that the vaccination issue is somewhat different because failure to get vaccinated can affect the greater population whereas the death with dignity and abortion issue only directly affect those immediately involved. MY choice to die or have an abortion will never impact YOUR health or well being while the choice to not be vaccinated (or vaccinate your kids) CAN harm others.

Yes- what vaccines are we talking about? For example, my kid gets a flu shot but if your kid doesn't, fine. DD's bf never gets one and she is at my house a lot.
But if you're talking about measles, pertussis, etc, that's a WAY different story. In those instances it's a public health issue.
I support death with dignity.

I think there should be SOME mandatory vaccines but I think hpv, chicken pox, and others should be choice.
I am for death with dignity, if that's what you want to call it. We euthanize pets out of compassion but not people.
We are a very hypocritical society.

Same here. As mentioned by others, as soon as your choice affects others, it's no longer strictly your choice....

Re: Abortion spinoff
I think vaccines are helpful and important but ultimately the structure of the shot schedule should be determined by parents. I know that we need vaccines as a society to keep dangerous diseases at bay but I really think we are over-vaccinating and preventing our immune systems from properly doing its job - not to mention the influx of allergies and reactions that the shots can cause.
As for death with dignity/assisted suicide, yes, I am totally for that. I think not allowing terminally ill patients to die in a dignified and controlled way is by far one of the cruelest things we can do as a society. Even in death people deserve to have the power to make these kinds of decisions. Taking away that power is, like I said, cruel. Forcing people to endure their illness and suffering can do no good in my eyes.

Exactly. Vaccines are a public health issue. Thanks to vaccines we no longer have polio in this country. It's a huge difference between that and deciding how and when you die or having an abortion- those things do not affect the health of the overall public.

Vaccines are a public health issue but not sure about the mandatory part for ALL vaccines. Maybe for some schools and the like only.
