Spinoff to Pro-Life/Pro-Choice: Do you think there is a difference between being Pro-Choice and Pro-Abortion?

I think there is.

I personally could be against getting an abortion for MYSELF, however, that does not mean I would want to take away another woman's right to choose what's best for her.

What are your thoughts?

ABSOLUTELY....I would personally not have an abortion but I respect and SUPPORT a woman's right to make that choice for herself....I do not think some people "get that" about pro-choicers

Re: Spinoff to Pro-Life/Pro-Choice: Do you think there is a difference between being Pro-Choice and Pro-Abortion?

Yes!!! 100% a difference.

I, at this point in my life, would never choose to have an abortion myself (when I was younger I may have thought differently).

BUT I don't think I have the right to decide what anyone else does with their bodies.

Therefore- I am pro-choice.

This is my aunts reasoning too, I respect this. While it may not be right for YOU (not you Jenn) it should be something that NO ONE can decide but the woman in question. IMO.

I don't think anyone is Pro-Abortion

I personally would never have one- but I want the choice to be able to have one if I needed to have one

I agree. I would never have an abortion myself, but I refuse to let the government take away a woman's right to do what she wants with her body.

I also do not believe in abortion as a form of birth control.

Re: Spinoff to Pro-Life/Pro-Choice: Do you think there is a difference between being Pro-Choice and Pro-Abortion?

Absolutely there's a difference. I'm not pro-abortion, as in "I like abortion" at all... I think abortion is very sad thing, and I myself would never have one. But I remain pro-choice, meaning I'm in favor of preserving an individual's right to have one if she herself deems it necessary. I don't think it should be up to me to decide whether other people should be allowed to abort their pregnancies.

I agree completely.

I think the descriptions are misleading b/c I don't consider myself anti-life just b/c I think a woman should have a right to choose what to do with her body. Pro-choice and anti-choice are more accurate descriptions, IMO.

Re: Spinoff to Pro-Life/Pro-Choice: Do you think there is a difference between being Pro-Choice and Pro-Abortion?

There absolutely is a difference. I am pro life, but I can understand why in some cases a woman would feel that an abortion is necessary (i.e. rape, incest, etc.) While I understand it, I do not agree with it. But I would not take her right away to do with her body as she wishes. If we outlawed abortion here, too many young girls would have them done illegally and could end up in worse scenarios than just being pregnant with an unwanted child.

I agree with this...unless it is a medical situation where my life in in danger or something worse - like rape, I would never have one...

Re: Spinoff to Pro-Life/Pro-Choice: Do you think there is a difference between being Pro-Choice and Pro-Abortion?

ABSOLUTELY. I am NOT, and I think most people are NOT pro-ABORTION. I am disgusted by women who use abortion as a form of birth control. I am sickened by the thought of abortion being taken lightly. I personally would not have an abortion myself at this point in my life. It is a life-altering decision. I have friends who have been through it and you are NOT the same afterwards, no matter what choice you make.

But a college student who is date raped? Incest victim? Grown women who take the necessary precautions because pregnancy will kill them, but accidentally get pregnant anyway... These people exist. These people need to be able to make the CHOICE. Until you can guaranty that there will be no rape and no incest, no life-threatening high-risk pregnancies then I have to support the choice.

I agree, but I think that's the BIGGEST misconception about people who are Pro-Choice.

I think people who are pro-life think people who are Pro-Choice *are* Pro-Abortion.

I posted this thread to state that not all Pro-Choice believers are Pro-Abortion. It's just that we believe women should have the right to decide what's best for her and her body.

This line of thinking would essentially make you Pro-Choice, not Pro-Life.

i Never could( can't have anymore) but as if you where in that person shoe's you can not say yes or no. the person who was raped or has not the finances to take care of a child i would like to see adoption before abortion but some people like me can not handle knowing there is a child out there of mine. i was adopted and for the longest time i wondered and wondered. i did fine my birth mom but not my birth father. and i still sit here and wonder if i have other sisters and brothers out there. i may never know. but then to each their own. wither they are or not some choses might have to go against what they believe

Absolutely. I don't see how on earth someone could be Pro-Abortion. To me, a pro-choicer wants women to have the right to choose whatever works for them

It can be viewed that way. But I don't believe abortions should be had under any cicumstances. That said, I just worry for the safety of women if we were to outlaw abortion, and so I think the choice should still be available for this reason. I guess the way I feel is complicated. I don't believe in it, but I'm not going to picket outside an abortion clinic to try to stop a woman from doing it. If she wants one, she's going to have one, whether it is legal or not.

I do believe that there is a very big difference.

I am pro-choice because I want every woman to have the choice...to have the option as they see fit.

Right or wrong..everyone is entitled to their opinion but I firmly believe that no one is entitled to decide what someone else should do.

There is a huge difference. It's not just black and white. And not just about rape or incest.

It's about not being in somebody's else shoes.

Who am I to decide for somebody else life and choices?

I think one can think that it is morally wrong (for herself personally or even anyone else), but still be against the idea that it is the government's place to ban / over-regulate it.

That's pretty much where I stand.
I believe everyone should have the right to make that decision for themselves, I just believe that in most cases, it is not the right choice & should only be used as a last resort.

Re: Spinoff to Pro-Life/Pro-Choice: Do you think there is a difference between being Pro-Choice and Pro-Abortion?

Since no other pro-lifers are chiming in here, I will state that I agree most pro-choicers are not for abortions. But many of you (not all) have said that if a women is raped, incest, etc. than she should have the right to have an abortion. That makes a very very small % of the population of abortions.

My question is, what do you with all the rest. Should they just be allowed to abort whenever they want to because you continually support and vote for pro-choice? Don't you believe there should be some regulation around the circumstance of an abortion?
