The bottom line is that we need campaign finance reform.
As long as people like Rubio are collecting millions from the NRA our government will be beholden to them.
When the tax reform bill was on the table Congressman Chris Collins from NY actually SAID OUT LOUD that his donors needed him to get it done.
Both parties are at fault but Republicans are much worse and specifically when it comes to the NRA their record is dismal.
Vote blue. Really. We have two awful red congressmen on LI that we need to get rid of. It's time folks.
NY is a blue state and the laws here are still ridiculous. You can report someone (who has a permit and a huge rifle collection) for gun threats and they don't do anything. You're literally told there is nothing they can do and to call back when you have proof or when they've actually committed a crime. Law enforcement is just that. They enforce laws, they don't prevent them.
Now that I have a school aged child, I would gladly pay more for armed guards at the schools. Our government doesn't give a f uck about keeping my kid safe. I already pay a ton so DS can go to pre-k in a secure building (compared to the others in this area that anyone can just walk in and walk out). If a school around here offered better security and armed guards, I would pay more. The piece of mind is worth more than the thoughts and prays our government is offering.
Even if we vote out all the republicans, the NRA will find the dems willing to take the money. Every single politician has their price.

I agree. The guns aren't going to go away. I've given up on that. So sadly, we need to focus on keeping these sickos out of the schools. There is not enough security in schools. Not even close to enough.

Agree with what some of you said here. Absolutely no reason why a civilian needs an assault weapon.

They did. The FBI was even notified and did.... nothing. There was a post in this thread about it.

Where did you see this?
He was adopted by a Long Island couple that moved to fl. When his mom died he came to live with his aunt on Long Island. He didn’t like it and moved back. I was reading a bunch of articles. I have to find the one that said that.

Disregard. Read conflicting articles. The aunt is from riverhead. I had read they came to live with her, but looks like that was wrong.

Thanks. There's so much conflicting info even in that one article. The mom had him on a tight leash, they came and went with little supervision. He was a normal kid in rotc, he was disturbed. He was a normal student in math, then the total opposite.

Active shooter at high school in Florida
It's sad that it feels like only a matter of time before it happens here. It just feels hopeless.
I had a student right here on long island who graduated and within months went on to commit a mass shooting at his college. It easily could have happened here already.

It does feel so hopeless.
I just can’t with these school shootings. It disturbs me so much, but that might be because my cousin was in Columbine for that school shooting. Honestly, it messed him up a lot. It took him years to get over it. He knew the killers, too. I don’t even think he’s completely over it.
I feel very strongly about gun control because of this. I guess it’s another day in the USA with a school shooting. It feels like it’s never going to change.

Heartbreaking.
Oh, no one wants to talk about the problems. Everyone in gov’t will sweep it under the rug.
Something needs to be done and it needs to be done yesterday. If Sandy Hook didn’t do anything, then why would this change anything?

I said to someone today...I dont know how these parents stay so composed when talking on TV. I would lose my mind screaming at everyone in office to do something! Will it take your child being gunned down to makes changes?!
So sad for this woman. Heartbreaking. Raw emotion that is perfectly understandable.
Too bad nobody is listening

I just heard the state of Florida will be covering the expense of all the funerals. That's the least they can do.

Re: Active shooter at high school in Florida
I am at a loss I really really am :(
Are there any legal repercussions against a state for not keeping a child safe in school? I would love if there was and people would sue,
Greed attributes to this huge problem and maybe hitting the state and lawmakers in their budget back pockets would hammer home some warning that this is not okay in any state or country.

This is what I can’t understand.. the FBI was told this guy wrote a comment on YouTube saying they were going to become a professional school shooter, and they say they couldn’t figure out who it was?!? I call extreme BS, the fbi certainly has the capacity to look up a ******** IP address. And if they are that stupid, they should have forced YouTube to disclose as a matter of security.
I don’t see how this is ever going to change, it’s almost stupid to believe our government will put our children before NRA funding, so I sit here praying I never have to face such a horrific thing with any of my kids.. this world has gone to shit

Where is the responsibility ibn the gun manufacturers? I wish these parents sued the shit out of the government and the gun companies because apparently money is the only thing that mattress these greedy sons of birches
