Re: after the baby is born are you.......
I am taking 3 months off after the baby is born. I would love to be a SAHM, but we are in the process of buying a home, and I doubt that we can do the SAHM thing.

Re: after the baby is born are you.......
I wish I could stay home and do what I'm meant to do, best I may be able to work out is to work part time - unfortunately I make enough money that it does "pay" for me to work...
I always find it funny when people worry about being bored at home. I have so much to do all the time it would be refreshing to actually finish what I start every so often. Plus with a baby, I'm sure you won't get bored.
Is work really that stimulating -

Re: after the baby is born are you.......
Baby is due Sept. 25th so I am not returning for the new school year. I plan to stay home with the baby and then sometime around January I would like to watch maybe 2 other children in my home (at home day care) so I will still have money coming in. I do not at all want to go back to my regular teaching job. I live in Stony Brook and teach in Queens and I don't want to be away from the baby for 12 hrs. a day and have him/her in a day care center. Doing in home day care is the best of both worlds........I can be home with my baby and still make money. Perfect!!

Re: after the baby is born are you.......
I'm also taking 6 months - a year, I am lucky that my job allows me to take up to a year unpaid. I love being home, but my job is more secure and has the better benefits, so I will go back.

8-12 weeks tops, I can take disability for up to 6 months, but I can't afford to take half pay for that long.

Going back after 3 - 4 months.
I choose to return to work....
I don't think I want to stay home. I worked hard for my credentials, and wouldn't want to give that up.

Re: after the baby is born are you.......
I am going to be a SAHM. DH makes a pretty good salary so I will be able to stay home.
Also, I've been at my job for 10 years, I need a change.

Re: after the baby is born are you.......
i've been a SAHM since getting married in '06 to my stepchildren that live with us, so i will continue to be a SAHM with the new baby. it was a big adjustment for me since i was working since i was 16, but i am used to it now, and it works out great now with the baby on the way that i will have lots of time for her. moneywise, it's been a lil rough, and we've had to make some sacrifices to make it work, but it has been worth it.

Re: after the baby is born are you.......
I am a teacher so I will take off the remainder of the school year and go back in September. I am the one that carries the benefits because DH is self-employed so I have to go back. We would probably be able to do without my salary for a little longer, but the additional $1400 a month to buy in for benefits would not work for us!
