Air Train?
How does the Air Train work from JFK? How much is it? How much is an Uber from JFK to Nassau (Massapequa)?
I’d ask my parents to pick me up, but I am toying with the idea of just surprising my family on Xmas Eve. I haven’t bought a plane ticket, but I have been scoping out prices and if I leave on certain dates it is pretty cheap, and I have had good luck previously buying last minute tickets. I haven’t been home in 5 years…

The Air Train is really easy and truly the best way to get to and from JFK.
I love it.
You just get the Air train from JFK (it stops at all terminals) right to Jamaica LIRR station and then you grab whatever train you need to LI or NYC from Jamaica.
It's super cheap, (forgot how much but maybe like 5 or 6 bucks now) no sitting in traffic , just easy and convenient.
You would buy a metro card for the fare right there at the Air Train terminal
I'd do that over an Uber if you can any day

I am not sure how much you have flown lately but in my experience, last minute pricing does not exist anymore. If you see something affordable now, I'd book it. With change fees waived now prices just tend to go up and up and up. I've rarely seen a ticket price come down post pandemic, especially when it is near a holiday.
An Uber will vary greatly depending on the time of day. I would say anwhere between $50 and $100.

Something like that. Prices have gone up but it's in that range.
Eta...it's $8. I googled it. Went up to $8 early this year

Very easy and inexpensive. If you travel in non rush hour times, there wont be much crowds either.
