Airplane travel and baby asprin

When I saw the nurse practitioner at the OBs office, she told me before getting on the plane that i should take one baby asprin and make sure I walk the aisles every hour or so. At my last appointment I mentioned this to the doctor to find out what type of asprin to get and she said that the asprin is not necessary, just to drink a lot and walk the aisles...

Just wondering what other people have heard regarding airplane travel and baby asprin... read a few articles online and nobody has mentioned the asprin so I'm wondering if i should just skip it...

Thanks for your help!

Re: Airplane travel and baby asprin

i was just on a plane last week and my doctor didn't mention anything to me. Just stay hydrated and walk around if you can. Well my walks to the bathroom a few times were enough for me! Chat Icon

I am flying to AZ in 2 weeks and i'm not looking forward to that 5 hour flight. Chat Icon I'll definitely be walking around a lot then.

No aspirin!
Just drink plenty of water and be sure to walk around.

I fly every week for work and was told to drink water and walk every 1-2 hours. I'm at 30 weeks and this has worked fine - no swelling, no aches, no issues at all. I'm stopping my travels at 32 weeks per my OB.

The baby aspirin is to prevent clotting since you have a higher risk of clots being both preggo and flying.

My midwife suggested taking a baby aspirin the day before, day of and day after the flight (we flew last week).

I did it with my last pregnancy when we flew to London, but not this time. It was a very short flight.

Re: Airplane travel and baby asprin

I'm going to Aruba in a couple of weeks (4 1/2 hour flight).

My midwife just said to get up and stretch my legs and drink a lot of water while I'm on the plan and during my trip.

She said a lot of people when traveling don't drink enough because they don't want to be inconvenienced with stopping to use a bathroom but it is really important to stay hydrated.

Okay heres another dumb question... did you all buy lots of water at the airport or will the airlines give you more water if you finish your "one glass per trip"?

I was planning to buy water at the gate too.... Im mad cuz we got our seats yesterday and the travel agent put us towards the rear of the plane so I'm going to have to walk forward to get my walking in instead of just being able to walk back towards the bathroom... I may try to change them though Chat Icon
