Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
The last time I sent DH to BRU (day before I went into hospital) he came back with all the wrong stuff (even though I GAVE him the registry) DS is 6 days old today and there is a bunch of stuff I want to buy and exchange....and well....I just dont trust DH to get it all done (properly). I had a c/s so I cant drive myself and there really isnt anyone else around to take me. Did anyone else take their newborn out this early or am I am just a nutball?

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
i didn't get to leave the hospital until she was 12 days old - but we went out not long after that. If I DID get out at a normal time, i'd likely have taken her out.
Be sure to:
1. bundle the baby up WELL 2. keep her covered (with the hood) in the stores (i wouldn't have done this, as emma was born in june, but it's now flu season). if your hood doesn't extend all the way over, use a blanket to keep the baby covered.

not nuts at all...its a personal choice. i took my kids out super early but used common sense-i kept the cover on the infant carrier down or wore them in a sling. i didn't let strangers get too close. i say you can't live in a bubble-but a lot of moms on here will disagree. do what YOU feel comfortable with!

I took Kaydyn out prob a week after I got home from the hospital. It was Jan and I bundled her all up and kept the cover over her car seat. No one even bothered me at all.

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
I took my DD to BRU when she was four days old. Granted I live in LA so it was 70 degrees in January but the flu was in full force.
Honestly, I thin k they are in more danger from relatives. My MIL gave my DD RVS at 2 weeks old

I would go into BRU while DH waits in the car with the baby. That way, you don't have to worry about the baby in the store, and you get some time to yourself!

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
I didn't take DS out but he was born in January. Its all about how comfortable you are with it. I don't think I would do it. I would wait at least 1 month b4 taking a newborn out. But I'm on the paranoid side.

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
I took DD out when she was 7 days old but that was only because i was sick with staph infection and HAD to go to the doctor. After that her next outing was the day after i was re-releaased form the hospital!

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
I took DS out at 8 days old. I was already suffering from cabin fever and needed to get out. I kept the hood on the carrier all the way down so no one could see him.

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
My concern actually is with you rather than the baby, because you had a c-section. But if you feel up to it, go for it!
DD was out shopping at 2 weeks old and she was born in January.

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
We take DD out, but not shopping. We'll walk around the neighborhood, take her to visit family, but that's it. Our ped told us it's best to wait until 8 weeks before taking her to public places, so that's what we're doing. I'm too paranoid not to do what our ped says.

ITA This is what I did a week after my DS was born. My DH waited in the car with my DS while I went shopping in BRU.

Re: Am I crazy for wanting to take newborn outside?
You are not crazy, its a personal decision and there is no right or wrong.I didn't take DS out shopping until he was 8 weeks. I followed my doctors advice and was overly paranoid about DS getting exposed to germs. Their immune systems are so immature and I was not willing to take the risk if I could avoid it. I ran errands when someone else could stay at home with the baby or ran into the store quick while DS stayed in the car with someone. We did take DS to outdoor activities and to family member's houses. He's almost 3 months now and I still try to avoid taking him to stores if I don't have to now that it's flu season.
