Am I crazy? re: buying baby stuff
I am not having a shower. My original plan was to register anyway, and then buy whatever I still need after the baby is born with the 10% registry completion coupon. But then, I realized I had a 20% BRU coupon that expires tomorrow. So I decided to buy a Pack and Play with the 20% coupon. And then I was like, well, if I keep getting these 20% coupons, I should just buy my bigger ticket items when I have the coupons, rather than waiting until after the baby is born, and then getting only the 10% discount.
The reason I'm thinking I'm crazy is because I'm only 20 weeks. Ultimately, I am going to end up buying all/most of it anyway, so I figured I might as well get the bigger discount. What do you think...am I nuts to start buying stuff now?

Not at all. If you have the coupons and you were going to buy them yourself anyway I think it's fine!
If you get gift cards, you can always use them for clothing and diapers. You'll need a LOT of those

You are not nuts. The only thing I would say is- Is there a possibility that your relatives and close friends might buy you stuff even though you aren't having a shower? If that is the case I'd wait to see if they get you the bigger ticket items.
I'm not having a shower either but will wait and see with my parents/inlaws/sister end up buying me off my registry and then use the 20% off coupons!

Good point. I *think* I know about most of the big ticket items other people are getting me...my parents offered to buy a jogging stroller and a glider, MIL is buying the crib, and my sister is giving me a bunch of stuff that her kids are done with (swing, bouncy chair, exersaucer, etc.). So I think beyond that, I'll be buying the rest.

I think it is a great idea. 20% off really adds up when the item is expensive. I purchased our digital video monitor and breast pump with the 20% off and we saved a lot of money.

Just an FYI, I've been able to use expired coupons at BBB, just as you can at Bed Bath and Beyond.

One word of caution - return policies are strict and BRUs is only 3 months. It might make more sense to wait until you are closer to take advantage of the 20% off coupons. You never know and you don't want to be stuck with two of something (especially the big ticket items).

Yes, this is VERY important to note!!! The return policy is 90 days from the date of PURCHASE, not your due date or registry date, etc. And considering that your baby may not like certain items, I would really be careful about buying certain items too early.
That said, BBB's return policy is much better, so if you're buying from them, you shouldn't have any big issues with returning items.

Re: Am I crazy? re: buying baby stuff
Thanks ladies. I am only buying from BBB, but they take BRU coupons which is awesome. And right now, I am not worried about getting doubles of things because I am not even going to register for the things I am purchasing myself, so hopefully that will help me avoid the doubles issue.

Actually, I would register for the big items you're buying and mark them as purchased. I believe if you need to return anything on your registry, you won't even need the receipt at BBB, but if you just buy it on your own, you have to make sure you keep everything, etc.

Not crazy at all. You have the coupons and know you are going to purchase these items anyway. Might as well try to save some cash along the way with the %off.

Not crazy at all. We did the same exact thing because nobody bought from our registry except my mom and grandma. I made sure to save those 20% for the bigger items instead of wasting them on tiny things.
