Well, he should really only be drinking about 2 cups of milk per day. But if that is all he is getting, I do not think it matters when he gets it.
Why?
Milk is very healthy, but the only reason that I know of to limit it is because it hinders iron consumption. My son was anemic when he was a toddler...attributed to drinking too much milk. Especially with a meal such as red meat or cereal where you want him to get his iron.
Ditto to this..
I was anemic as a child because of this (I still LOVE and drink lots of milk to this day btw)
My son was the same way but while I see no biggie in him getting it, I do believe that there should come a point where he doesn't need ESP that bedtime bottle.. not only because of the teeth but because when it's time to potty train, that last bottle before bedtime is going to hinder your training him..

Re: Am I doing this wrong???
I think your mom is wrong. My DD is turning 5 next week and she still likes to go to bed with a water. We put it in a sippy cup to avoid spills. She hasn't put a bottle in her mouth in 4 years. I don't see the big deal.

Re: Am I doing this wrong???
I think the only problem would be something like the fit you experienced when you had none. Most of us have some sort of bedtime routine so if yours is milk so what.
