In a million years it would never cross my kind to tip the cable guy............or the phone guy, or the oil man, or the electrician, or anyone else who comes to the house to do a job they are already being paid to do.
I agree with others, tipping has gone crazy these days.

Exactly. These guys are salaried. They don't work off tips like waiters, bartenders, hairstylists, etc.

I agree tipping is out of hand, but arent most already paid for the job they do. Do you tip the men delivering/carrying in/setting up your furniture? The carpet installers? The men installing swing set?
How do we choose who we tip and dont?

I think it depends on the circumstance, extra effort, service provided, etc.
Obviously tipping is a personal choice, some people will tip everyone for everything and some won't.
For me, it just depends. With regards to this thread, I would never tip for general service calls at the house from cable, electric, oil, and so on. It just does not seem warranted IMO.

No I tip a wait person bartender hair or nail person that is about it. If you are making a full wage then no tip unless you did something extra that was not part of the original job and did it for no charge.
I'm not sure why people tip all these people. They probably make more than most people.

I've never tipped the furniture guy. I pay a delivery fee. The end. They make a living wage, not $3 an hour like a server.

So to update I didn't tip him. I think it stems from my college days when we used to pay off the cable guy and he'd hook up hbo for free. I do agree tipping is out of hand and I do like to tip when appropriate.
