An article re: children & food allergies
I thought I'd share this article that I found on our ped allergist's website. It's a long, but interesting & informative read for those of us who have children with food allergies...
When Is Your Kid's Food Allergy Really a Food Allergy?

great article. makes perfect sense to me, DD isnt allergic to any foods but has sensitivities to many things with severe reactions at times if she has too much of it at once.

Re: An article re: children & food allergies
I like how it explains things so clearly.
In our case, DS has full-on allergies to both casein (milk) & eggs. Having an anaphylactic casein/milk allergy myself I unfortunately knew all too well what his reactions were when he had both cow's milk & eggs. The combination of my description & blood tests at 1 y/o are how he was diagnosed. We'll be moving on to skin & challenge testing when he's a bit older, but for now we avoid both at all costs

It really did explain things clearly, I agree. I have a shellfish allergy but my IgE tests have always come back negative. I was told for years I didn't have a true allergy, but a "sensitivity" despite having worsening symptoms with every exposure, including difficulty breathing. Thankfully I found an allergist who knows his stuff and finally gave me an epi pen.
Now we are going through a situation similar to what the article describes with DD2. I am bf'ing her and she developed head to toe eczema so severe she scratched/rubbed it raw and bloody, diarrhea, vomiting and just generally unhappy. We finally have the eczema semi controlled thanks to steroid creams and I'm on an elimination diet which seems to be helping along with addition of Neocate because my supply tanked when they mentioned it. I was petrified that I was making it worse for her so I gave her the Neocate and didn't nurse her in hopes that I could ease some of her suffering. I'm hoping that working with an allergist now that we can get a handle on it.
I've found avoiding milk/eggs to be so difficult and a real challenge. :(

Re: An article re: children & food allergies
very interesting..and gives me hope. DD is severely allergic to milk/soy. I've heard that usually goes hand in hand with glutten, nut, egg, etc allergies that I'm soo nervous to try other things. I'm still nervous, but hopeful that she'll outgrow this .
Thanks!
