Re: And the nail-biting begins...
CNN made a projection for Iowa. That's 7. California will go to Obama probably.

Do you think those counties have certain trends??. I am sorry but I dont know what NOVA means - is that Northern Virginia?? Aren't those more likely to go to Obama? Hum...the plot thickens....

Re: And the nail-biting begins...
I also thing California, Washington, Oregon and Hawaii will go to Obama but I could be wrong. Isn't that going to be enough...regardless of Florida and some of the other states that are too close to call right now, based on CNNs projections, of course.

Well one is in the Virginia beach area which is mostly red. The other is near Norfolk, which went blue. Only a few thousand votes will decide Virginia!

Yes, sorry, NOVA is Northern VA, which has been trending more and more blue over the past several election cycles. The "exurbs" of DC tend to be a bit more red than the close in suburbs, and it's those exurbs that we're waiting on coming in still. There are pockets in the state that have been trending blue for a while: NOVA, I-95 corridor, Richmond, Hampton Roads, and the college towns.
I think that the marker will be the exurbs- if they do go blue, the rest of the state will follow.
hope that makes more sense.

It will be a major upset if he loses California- but if he wins it, he only needs to win one more: CO, FL, VA or NC.

Absolutely makes sense. I seem to remember this being discussed in the 2006 Senate races where they were waiting for Arlington and Alexandria but I did not want to be presumptuous. Thanks for clearing it up and sorry for being such a thick Yank!

I've been closely following Virginia, and it's far more blue than it was 4 years ago. Even though the state is majority red, the DC area has the largest population, along with Richmond, and Norfolk. They're all blue.
Most of the counties who have reported are the more rural areas. Fairfax is only at about 52%, which is where a huge portion of the population, and the dem population, lives.

They won't declare anything for certain until at least 11pm. That's when CA closes its polls. Won't want to discourage people from voting (or make them think they don't need to bother).

Re: And the nail-biting begins...
Anyone else notice that CNN stopped using their holograms. Guess they stopped working. They also stopped using the vitrual Capitol.
ETS: Funny they just brought back the Virtual capital.
