I read a sign that said my doctor will no longer be delivering babies as of January 2007. I sat there and felt my heart slump to my stomach. There are two other docs in the practice and they are merging with another practice for a total of 5. I know they are competent so that isn't the issue. Its just that my doc wont be doing obstetrics anymore. This man is the only GYN I have ever had. He will still be, I just wanted him to be the only man between my legs other than DH when I have a baby.
Leslie, why don't you talk to him about making an exception. My OB/GYN stopped delivering a few years ago, but because he delivered me, he said he would deliver mine (if I'm lucky enough to get PG).

Personally, I think it is an insurance issue. When a doctor is an OB/GYN, the OB part carries more liability and insurance.
It could also have been a personal decision, that maybe he did not want to be at the mercy of unpredicatble deliveries. Maybe he wants to be able to spend more time with his family.
I did not think it was my place to pry and ask why. I have seen one of the other doctors in the practice and he was lovely. I guess I feel vulnerable because I am not pregnant yet. Once I am, I suppose anyone could deliver the child as long as they are board certified and know what they are doing.

I was reading in a magazine (while waiting for my gyno who doesn't deliver babies) that NY is one of the states that is in danger of not having enough OB's per pregnant women. The article went on to say it is because the premiums have gone up so much in recent years that doctors feel it's not worth it. Sad.

On the positive side, he told me the differences between AIH and IUI. He said that DH can be with me for the procedure. He told me he would dim the lights and put mood music in the room if I REALLY wanted it . He also said that DH's count rendered him rather virile. A normal sperm count is supposed to be 20 million per ml and DH can proudly boast 60 million per ml. The doctor also said we would do this for three cycles and at that point we move on to more invasive means. I am expected to return to the doctors office for blood work to test levels the following week after the AIH - Ill know by then!
I was wondering what the differences between AIH and IUI were?
Is it just the "normalcy" of the sperm count?
I'm curious because AIH was never even mentioned to me through 2 years of fertility treatments. Is it new?
TIA!!

Thanks and I would be happy to share what I was told as originally, I had a hard time making the distinction between the two procedures and when they were done.
The doctor told me that AIH is usually done when there are no apparent physiological issues with either the woman OR the man. DH went for an SA and I went for a sonogram and full blood work before this was made an option for us and only after we had been TTC for 6 months - we are both 36. As of right now, we all (the doctor and us) believe our issue is timing though time will tell. Sperm count COULD be a male issue but is not for us. AIH does not involve any washing of the sperm. The doctor, as he put it, is simply acting as a conduit in order to maximize our chances for conception. I guess he is able to get closer to where he needs to be with the catheter. He does AIH but not IUI in his office. I will not have taken any medication to stimulate eggs because he had been able to see that I ovulated during my sonogram. My feeling is that I would like to exhaust all efforts before moving on to more invasive procedures that may involve medication or injections. If I have to, then I have to and I'll cross that bridge when I get there. I am just grateful that this exists for us. I am getting older and would like to have a child as soon as we can!
ETA: I have never been more excited to get a negative response on an OPK than I did today because this means it will probably happen tomorrow and the first procedure is Monday. Maybe this time, timing will be in our favor!
