Another pumping at work question
If you pump multiple times a day how do you clean your pump parts?
I work in a lab so I am grossed out about washing parts here. I have just been rinsing the milk off and sterilize them at home though I am thinking of just sticking them in the fridge when I am done and just washing and sterilizing them at home.
I have two pump parts so I have to clean one set once if I am pumping three times.
Not really sure what to do.

Re: Another pumping at work question
I just dried them off with a tissue/paper towel in between sessions and washed/sterilized them at home. The sink here grosses me out too

Re: Another pumping at work question
i had two sets of parts for my freestyle - i would pump the first time and put the lieces in a ziploc bag next to the ice pack then i would use those pieces to pump at second time - third pump would use clean pump pieces

Yeah I have those. I just thought it would be a waste since I have access to a fridge and a sink

Do you have access to a microwave that you can use the Medela steam bags?

Re: Another pumping at work question
When I pumped 3x at work, I brought in 3 sets. On the days that I had accidents with them (dropping them on the floor), I did the fridge trick. I never washed sets at work because the kitchen at my workplace is a disaster.

Re: Another pumping at work question
I used to bring a couple extra parts...but that got annoying. Now I just use one set...pump and refrigerate the parts and use again. I clean and sterilize when i get home.

This is what I was going to suggest. You can also get a sterilizer from one of the bottle makers...I use a Tommee Tippee one.

Re: Another pumping at work question
I just rinse them with cold water and use the same parts for the next time. I do a full wash of all the parts at home that night.

Re: Another pumping at work question
I used to use the bathroom sink to wash the parts in between every session and I kept soap and sponge to do it. But I had my own private bathroom so it wasn't too much of an issue. Can you wet a paper towel to just do a once over in between sessions?

Re: Another pumping at work question
it's totally ok to keep the parts in a zip lock bag in the fridge. you do not have to wash them in between sessions. I've been doing this for 5 months with no problems.

Re: Another pumping at work question
Maybe I am gross and shouldnt admit this LOL
I dont even wash them and I am still home! After every session I throw them in a ziploc bag and throw them in the fridge. I even throw the empty Medela bottles in the fridge ( after making up the bottles for DD ) and I use them every time.
After my first time pumping in the morning I wash all the bottles from the night before and all the pump parts.
No issues yet.

Re: Another pumping at work question
I just rinsed them with warm water (and soap if it was at the sink) and put the parts in the fridge with the milk. Then used them for the next session and threw everything in hot soapy water or the dishwasher when I got home that night.

Re: Another pumping at work question
If you have a sink, you can definitely just rinse them and use again while you're at work, then steam them when you get home. I only steamed once every few days and washed with soap and water every other time.
