Re: Another white noise question...will this be just another "crutch"?
Logan stayed at my parent's house a few weeks ago and I couldn't figure out why I couldn't get to sleep.
Then I realized it's because I hear the noise machine all night through the monitor.
I had to turn it on for myself.
So, yes, it's a crutch, but a harmless one!

Maybe just put it on a timer? I used it every night with DS and set the timer for 45 minutes - He hasn't needed it in about a month to fall asleep and he never woke up once it went off. I think it was just something to calm him down enough so that he'll fall asleep. I know each child is different though.

I have one for both girls. I think they sleep much better with it honestly. I think it depends on what type of one that you have. While things like the sleep sheep are nice and cute - I think they are a crutch. They make sounds like rain, ocean etc and they turn off after a while so you kind of need that to go back to sleep. I have a sound machine that you turn on and it stays on until you turn it off. It is a real white noise (sounds like a fan/air conditioner). It blocks out outside noises (dogs, car doors etc) more so than being a noise that they need or rely on if you kwim? Have you tried one of those?

I have always used white noise with my kids (still do and they are 7, 5 and almost 2). They've always been good sleepers. They can sleep without it if they have to but they sleep much better with it.
