Call Sloan Kettering. They are the best. They also have some offices out here in LI.

What stage is the cancer? That is going to have a big impact on the treatment options. I lost my aunt to lung cancer 7 years ago, but it was stage 4, and had spread through both lungs. Chat Icon

So sorry to hearChat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon My Grandfather just passed from lung cancer. All his docs were in suffolk.

I agree with the other posters that SK in Manhattan is an excellent hospital for treatment.

Re: Any experience with lung cancer- please read.

We went through this with my mom 3 years ago. She was diagnosed with stage 4 lung/brain cancer. She went immediately to Sloan Kettering. I can get the doctor's names if you want...FM me.

She had part of her lung removed, and the tumor on her brain removed. The only side effects are that her memory is a little off, and she has trouble breathing in the summer (when it's humid).

Like I said, it's been 3 years, and she has been in remission for 2. She went for radiation in Commack, and her surgeries were in the Sloan in NYC.

I wish you and your family lots and lots of

Re: Any experience with lung cancer- please read.

OMG- thank you SO much for your stories and your recommendations. This site is so amazing, so full of support and prayers. I can't thank you enough.

On Monday she is being admitted into St. Lukes in the city-for the full round of diagnostics - to see what stage it is, etc.

Then we choose the oncologist, her nutritional program, a therapist for her spirits, and then we fight.

I will keep you updated and I cannot thank you enough.

A prayer for all of your loved ones who have fought this Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Any experience with lung cancer- please read.

I second all the recommendations for Sloan.
Another alternative is this oncologist:
Dr. Marc Citron (516) 622-6150 ?
His office is in New Hyde Park. He treated my mother's breast cancer many years ago and he's a wonderful doctor and a caring person. I believe lung cancer is one of his specialties.

Just wanted to send you some love and support. My dad was diagnosed with lung cancer about a year and a half ago. He had half of one lung removed and then went through chemo and radiation. If you want to talk, feel free to FM me. The process of treating lung cancer is very painful to watch. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Any experience with lung cancer- please read.

I have a lot of experience with lung cancer inmy family and my husband's family, but it was a long time ago and treatments weren't the same, so I can't offer advice, but a lot of prayers and good vibes to you.

Be sure you get an appointment with someone at Sloan Kettering--just for an opinion.
