Any feedback on Alure and Total Home

Had a few estimates but it seems to be coming down to these two - it's for roofing, siding and gutters.

I am really torn on who to hire?

Thanks

We've used Alure for several projects over the years and were always satisfied.
(A bit on the expensive side but we felt it was worth it.)

I have always used smaller companies where the owner is on site. Maybe try someone like that? I have a great person I use for everythibg

Alure has been wonderful for me.
Siding, roof, windows, kitchen and 2 baths over the years.
They've been in business for over 60 years and offer a sold warranty.
My roof was severely damaged and I called them desperate for a new roof. While I hadn't even signed a contract, they arrived and tarped my roof while I waited for my insurance company. That showed to me their integrity.
I know people that went with less expensive companies and the businesses went under. mh home is too important to me to mess around.
Good luck in whatever you decide,

Thank you, it's def. not the $$ because they truly are neck and neck in pricing - but offering two different products so I'm torn on which way to go....

Thanks for the reply!!!

Chris -

I wouldn't take a glowing review from a member with 1 post too seriously.

I agree with Jessah, contract with a smaller company where the owner is readily available and on-site.

Very true.... My concern with a small company is where will they be if ever I need a warranty issue resolved. Such a big decision....

We had a great experience with Allure. It was a little pricey but we felt we got added value for it. The 5 year warranty is wonderful - we had a small problem with floor tiles and they replaced the entire floor 4 years into our warranty with no expense to us. If you agree to let them show your basement to prospective buyers they will extend your warranty an additional 5 years. The basement is now 6 years old and we have never had a problem with mold or mildew or any type of smell. We do not have a guaranteed completely dry basement so we definitely did not want to put up dry wall. We have the drop ceiling and that has come in very handy over the years when needing access to pipes or cables. I don't have any experience with Total Home so I am curious what others have experienced. Good luck!

Re: Any feedback on Alure and Total Home

I used total home - many years ago. They were fantastic. Probably one of the best contractors I ever used (and I have done a lot of work). Family members have used them since and had the same great experience. Is Paul still there? What was wonderful was he came everyday and checked on his workers and made sure things were done right and to his standards. He made sure they cleaned up and did things right. He did my windows, siding and doors. I still get a Christmas card every year from them the day after Thanksgiving too!Chat Icon I had only minor issues with things years later and they were good at resolving and responding.

The only negative is they are outrageous over priced in comparison to others and you have to weigh that. At the time I did siding, he came highly recommended to me and it was my first major house project. I went with what someone suggested. About 7 years later and many house projects later, I did a major extension and his base price was over $100K more than someone who came in in the middle of the contractors I priced. While his service and work was great I can think it is that much better.

I would stay away from Allure. Too many bad reviews from many people. Friends of ours sued them over their bathroom renovation. There are so many local contractors who would do better by you then a "brand" name company so to speak.

I had Allure come give us an estimate for something. I bascially laughed in his face when he gave us the number. It wasn't just high - it was outrageous. He talked us up before giving us the numbers - asked what we did for a living and stuff. Maybe it was just small talk but I got a really strong gut feeling that he was basing his price off what he assumed we should be able to afford.

Both myself and my family have used Alure and have no complaints what so ever. They did my parents bathroom, and recently my bathroom and are booked for my MIL kitchen and my parents kitchen. I believe they might have also done my parents gutters as well. If you have any questions please PM me and I can tell you about my experince.
