any idea of how much it would cost to install a kitchen hood?

there is space above the range for a kitchen hood. any idea how much it would cost to install one? they would need to cut a hole into the wall right?

I did my own installation. It depends on the type of hood. If you can get one that vents directly outside, without going up at all, that's the best. That's the kind I have. If it has to vent up, it needs to run about 2 feet before it goes outside. If the stove is on an outside wall, it's of course much easier. You'll need a hole cut to the outside, a vent cover outside, the pipe inside (if you have to go up).
Are you replacing an existing vent/microwave? You'll need power, so if you don't have something there, you'll need to run an electric line to the area.

This was my first hood install, and it only took me an hour or so. I didn't have to run any vertical pipes, and I had an electric line for the vent already there. I also didn't have to move any wall studs.
