How much does it cost to remodel a Kitchen
Like gut remodel. Lets say an average size kitchen. I really have no idea how much this costs TIA

Could be anywhere from $5k to $75k and up! It depends on what you want... type of flooring, size and material of cabinets, type of countertop, appliances, etc. It also depends on if you do the work yourself or hire someone.

My aunt spent 50K on her kitchen.  She completely gutted it and started from scratch. (Well, she hired someone to gut it). New flooring, sheetrock, cabinets, SS appliances, granite countertops, recessed lighting.
Friends of mine spent half that to do the same abount of work, but they did it ALL themselves.

Our kitchen isn't that big and my dh did all the work and with appliances and everything else to get it back to a kitchen I think it was about $25k. My dh said kitchens and baths are the most expensive things to do in a house.

If you're paying someone else, I would estimate 25 k - 50 k. 50k for a highend remodel job with everything (highend appliances, cabinets, crown modeling, granite, etc.).

Cabinets can get very pricey.
There are ways of keeping the costs down for countertops like putting on tile instead of slab. But I would def say that cabinets are the most exp part.

it really depends who is doing the work.. what kind of materials you want and what you want to change...cabinets, flooring, appliances, etc.. Size does have a difference as well.
If you got handy men in your family, i recommend you save some money and DIY as projects like this, its mostly service at a high rate.

We are gut renovating our kitchen in January for about $25K. We can not do any of the work ourselves b/c we live in a co-op in the city and DH is not a licensed contractor. The actual cost of the kitchen is closer to to $35K, but we knocked of $10K because of DH's trade discounts (he is an architect). By far, the most expensive component is labor. HTH!!

I would do it "Jess-style". They did it themselves and did an awesome job. if i am to ever redo a kitchen, it will definitely be DIY with lots of FMs to jess!!!

We totally gutted our kitchen and did all the work ourselves. With new insulation, sheetrock, cabinets, flooring, and countetops, and appliances, we spent around $12,000.

my mother did (with a bump out too). her's was :
Cabinets...$17500.00, extension, maybe 15000.00...appliances, $15000.00.
But, she got Fisher & paykel, Wolf stove, double oven, Amana fridge, high end microwave, exhaust thing.

Thanks! It takes a little longer and it is HARD work, but definitely worth the money saved.

The LABOR !!!!
You would save a ton of money if you hung the cabinets yourselves. The only thing I would have the professional install is the countertop.
We hung all our Kraftmaid cabinets ourselves and saved thouands. We had an installer install the countertops. But that was OK because Consumers only quoted coutertop pricing with installation anyways.

We had our kitchen done last year. New cabinets, flooring, appliances and countertops. You can really shop around for cabinets, flooring & countertops. As for appliances, PC Richards has tent sales usually over the summer and there is a PC Richard in Deer Park on Commack Road that has a clearance center. We went to the tent sale and saved a lot of money. I wish we had done all of it ourselves, but we didn't know too much when we first bought the house, but now we do a lot of our own work in the house. Our kitchen was around $20k. Cherry wood cabinets, granite countertops, stainless steel appliances and hardwood floors is what made up our cost. We did not move any plumbing and did not replace sheetrock. GL!

Depending on who you use, what type of materials you need, etc. I think an avg sized kitchen can run anywhere from 20K to $30k and definitely higher. We completely gutted our kitchen and went with SS apps, granite, etc but it wasn't a HUGE space so that helped with costs. We didn't go nuts on add ons either like wine fridge, etc.

It's not a dumb question. Never pay for anything in full upfront when you do construction on a house. You should have some kind of contract to sign with a contractor or a store you buy it from. You should be able to pay by a payment plan or take out a loan and pay it off monthly.

Ours was just completely gutted so we are starting the process now. I have an L shaped kitchen with an island. My father is a plumber so he did all the plumbing. For sheetrock/installation and flooring (we are installing hardwood) it's costing $4,500. The cabinets are costing us $12,000. If we go through the cabinet place for granite it's $6,000..but we are still going to shop around. As for appliances..we haven't started to look yet.

We did all the work ourselves, and we bought Ikea cabinets which we put together and hung ourselves. We also did granite tiles instead of a slab. I have some pics of the renovation in my album.

We just did our 9 by 11 kitchen , totally gutted...
cabinets -$7000
granite - $2000
Backspalsh - $440
Appliances - $4000
floor - $350
sink $200
faucet - $350
knobs (I went nuts) -$300
Labor $10, 000 - including plumbing, electric, and making a half wall
We used out credit card pts to buy $1500 worth of HD gift cards and used ut for the floor, sink, faucert, and knobs
