any mommies who live OOS
Do you ever just get so homesick for NY? We just got back yesterday from 10 days in NY and it was so great to be around family and friends for such a long period of time. The teachers at daycare told me that today DS kept asking for NY. I love where I live now, sometimes though I just feel like it will never be home.

Every single day. I would move back tomorrow if I could

I wish you could. I cannot wait until you are in LB for the summer.
When I was in FL or when I am there for a long time, I get horribly homesick. I am a NY'er at heart.

Re: any mommies who live OOS
I'll just give you my view...
We lived in San Diego for 3 years.... (7.5 months of those were after we had the baby).
We moved back to NY.
Close to every day (with a few exceptions) I wish we were saying "Okay guys, it's been really fun visiting, but it's time for us to go home."
I love my family. I love DH's family... but I miss our old life. The grass is always greener

Re: any mommies who live OOS
Maybe because I went to college oos, then moved back to ny to realize I did not need ny.
I am very thankful that it is easy for me to get up there and have a place to stay. While we are there it is great.
Once my cousin, who paid 400K for her home in a flood zone, bad schools, and 5 pitbulls living next door..told me that "there is no great accomplishment in owning a home in NC. Anybody can do it. But not everybody can own here."
She said that in hopes that it would hurt my feelings. It didn't. It is just two completely different mindsets.
She commutes to midtown each day. Her boy is in daycare fulltime, then his grandmother picks him up at closing time, then his mother picks him up from there and they head home and do it all over again.
That would be my life as well. We had the same jobs. I even had a shorter commute to WFC. I guess I lack the drive. I don't want to "make it anywhere" I want the easy road
so, no...I never see me returning, ever. I don't know if I am Charlotte for life...but I know I am never NY again.

What she said. I'm in OH now, have a fantastic business, a house that would probably cost me $800,000 in NY, and a nice life. I do miss the how people are a little more cosmopolitan/wordly in NY because of where they live. But overall, I don't see myself moving back to NY unless I win the megamillions and get myself a great little place on Park Avenue.

Re: any mommies who live OOS
I get sad after a long visit too! I miss my family so much. It is terrible. I feel so bad for my mom b/c I know how much she misses dd. We just can't afford to move back. I am a sahm now, we bought a house ( which I don't think we could do in NY). There are trade offs. It wasnt as hard before we had dd. I get home sick, just wish we were a little closer 3 hrs instead of 5. We are looking into moving a little closer, but only b/c DH is unhappy where he works now. I love being home w/ dd, want to have more kids in NY we couldnt do it. Even if I worked FT we would barely make ends meat. I know how you feel. I make lots of plans and always have ppl coming to visit. It helps. We get back to NY when we can before the holidays we were there in Oct for dd's Baptism. Now we won't be back until April. DH has a crazy schedule.

I love my family, I love visiting, but after 5+ days with each other, I'm sometimes a little happy I live 4 hours away... I hope that doesnt make me a bad person I do feel bad that DD won't be geographically close to her grandparents though..

Re: any mommies who live OOS
We live in FL and were just in NY for 10 days also. We had the best time with my family and just being back home was so great... it is every time. DH and I would move back in a heartbeat if he got a really good job opportunity up there, but we're staying put in FL for a while since we have it pretty good down here. NY is definitely "home"... and as much as we love our house here and have DH's family, great friends, it's not home to us. We grew up in NY, met there, lived there when we were together, got married up there and are just NYers at heart.

Re: any mommies who live OOS
As a mommy to be.. I we spent 2 wks in NYC during the holidays and I gotta say there is no place like home (aka NYC).. There is something about being around the family and being in your city that NO Place can fill. We live in ATL and its FARRR!!
Hopefully with all the blessings reining over us we are planning on moving to the suburbs of NJ or CT. At least to be closer to NYC. I wouldn't make the move to NYC, its just not where I would like to raise my children. I'm used to the space and quietness of the suburbs.

Re: any mommies who live OOS
I have been out of the country for 12 years now, and no, I don't just miss NY, I miss my family and friends at home, but I don't actually miss the place. Sometimes I miss certain things about LI, like bagels or Target, but I find I miss my British home comforts even more! A lovely cup of tea, a glass of Vimto, a bowl of ready-brek. All of my friends are here, and I realy love it! When I am on LI, I can't wait to get back to Blighty!

Re: any mommies who live OOS
We've been out here in IL for 4.5 years now and while I miss everyone ALOT, especially now that I'm pregnant again, our visits back have become less & less frequent. Mostly because we don't have a comfortable place to stay. And so many times our visits are so stressful due to wanting to try to fit EVERYONE in. It's impossible. It is easier when I organize it better with a set plan for everyday. Lately I miss the food more than ever (maybe it's the pregnancy). Now that we're settled in our house with really great neighbors and friends around us, this feels more like home. I don't think we could ever go back to living in NY permanently. I do wish we had a better place to stay when we do visit though. (my parents are in FL, my brother's house is a possibility we need to try again, SIL's house (where we always stay) is an absolute nightmare. We have friends' houses, which might work, but SIL would be so hurt & angry. Anyway, enough hi-jacking.

Re: any mommies who live OOS
Thanks for sharing ladies! I think it's so great that so many of you love your new homes so much! I hope that is me one day as well. I feel petty for even being sad because we are only in CT a little over 2 hours away from everyone. But it is just not the same as being 5 min. away ya know? I LOVE the town where I live, it is an awesome place to raise kids and I have made great friends here. It's just not NY and that makes me resent it sometimes.

Re: any mommies who live OOS
I sometimes feel the same way. I am also in CT about 1 1/2 hrs from LI and I do miss it terribly, mainly b/c thats where ALL out friends and family are. We were in UTah for 2 years and I couldn't wit to get back to CT to be closer, especially after dd. My dh made it happen and now I look at as We are not a 5 hour plane ride away we are a 1 1/2 hr. drive away. Its so close we can do it whenever we want but not to far when we have had enough we our families haha. Now since Aug (since we moved back) we have been down every other weekend. We have been so crazy, that I said, If anyone wants to see us they have to come here haha.
It's bittersweet I guess.

Re: any mommies who live OOS
We moved from LI to NJ 3.5 years ago and I want to say the first 2 years were hard for me. I really missed my family after I saw them. Now, you couldn't pay me to move to LI. While I still really miss my friends and family, we have a life here now. I would never give up the fact that my DH gets to see his kids every morning and night again. He missed DS's first year because of commuting. It got easier for me once my oldest started nursery school. It felt great because it put me on a schedule and looking that, that is what I needed. Once he was settled in there, I joined a gym with a babysitting and made friends. It will get easier.
