Any tips on poison ivy removal?

Since the landscaping has been neglected for 2 years prior to us moving in, poison ivy is all over. I need to get it out. Any tips on the easiest way to do it without catching it?

Re: Any tips on poison ivy removal?

I am always finding little bits here and there all over my yard. What I do is spray it with the roundup for PI and try to wait for it to die (this can take 2 weeks and I usually can't wait that long). I use surgical gloves and take a plastic garbage bag and carefully pull the PI (trying hard not to touch it on anything or me) and place it in the plastic bag. I try to pull the gloves off w/o touching myself (If you have ever done blood/HIV training in schools, they teach you how to do this)

then I wash up with brown surgical soap.

I will say that I get a little bit every year, but always slight cases.

remember everypart is poisonous - the leaves, stems AND roots

after getting this poison ivy infection I have last week, I'm leaving it to the pro's!!! I don't want to ever feel this burning itch again!! I'm going to have my MIL's gardener remove it. if it comes back next year maybe I'll deal w/ it myself then. good luck!!!

My mom swears by this stuff called Tecnu, you wash with it after working with poison ivy to help prevent it. It also helps if you get it. I'd get that, I've used it and its worked for me an dh!
