$3600 for 3 bedrooms and a hallway of the upstairs of a dormered cape. That seems like an awful lot to me. But we need carpeting! DH is at Home Depot pricing them out. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

ETA: we just got back from carpet depot in levittown and their quote was $1500 cheaper plus they offered 0% financing for a year. We went with them.

Empire is a rip-off IMO

I got a quote from them about 3x the amount I actually paid from another carpet place!

A friend of mine got a quote on hardwoods from Empire and it was sooooo much more than any other quote she got. I think they are VERY pricy.

Empire is ridiculous. I got a quote for them for DD's bedroom that was double home depot and lowes.

Re: anybody know anything about carpets? just got a quote from Empire for...

I have a co-worker that just used Empire and he raved about the quality of their work. He's used them before and said the same then. He said they moved all the furniture and when it came to ripping up the carpet padding they ended up having to spend a lot of time scrapping up the old-fashion cocoa-mat type padding that had been glued in place. Didn't charge any extra.

My parents just redid their bedroom with them and they beat home depot prices. They give discounts if you sing their song and if you book the same day and also if you give them other quotes they beat them. My rents were very happy with them and my sister too. Tell them other quotes and see if they beat them...if not go with cheaper prices. We were planning on using them for our basement and 2 upstair bedrooms and were figuring 4k-5k.

Anyone use Carpet Depot on Hempstead Turnpike.

We are looking to redo carpets too and were considering Empire, but that quote sounds rediculous.

We need 4 bedrooms, family room, hallway and stairs done.

I know the last time we did carpet in 2 bedrooms it came to about 700$.

Thanks

How many square feet?

I got almost 350 square feet from Kelly Carpet last year for about $950 installed.

Real good quality carpet too. Over $20 a square yard.

Empire is ridiculously expensive - but I guess it for tha shop at home concept.
I usually use Montauk rug and carpet off Rte 110.

I was going to recommend Carpet Depot. We used them for 2 bedrooms and a runner for the stairs and I think it was maybe $1,000.

Did that include everything, rip up of old carpet and install?

Will I save any money if I rip up the old carpet myself?

If they do rip up the old, do they usually dispose of themselves, or leave it.

Coupon for Carpet Depot

Never mind, it expired already. Why don't they take it off their site. Sorry!

Usually they don't quote you with carpet removal. IMO, it's a waste of $ to have them rip it up. As long as you have someone strong to do it, take up the old carpet yourself and put it out for the garbage pickup.

My ILs swear by Jim Flack on 110 - the guy with a hole in his head. Chat Icon

They subcontract their installs and the ILs prefer "Team A" - my FIL is VERY hard to please and he loved them.

We have used Carpet Depot (Lake Grove) near Applebees on 3 different occassions. They were courteous, reliable and neat. They were much cheaper than Home Depot and Empire

Frankly, we had a horrible experience with them. The day of install they brought the wrong carpet to our house, so the install guys went back to the warehouse to find the right one. About 20 minutes later the owner calls us and informs us that our carpet was just installed in someone else's house (he was actually laughing about it and found it quite amusing). Apparently, that customer liked our carpet better than the one that they had originally picked out, so they just installed it. The owner didn't apologize or offer to do anything for us other than make us wait another week to have our carpet reordered and installed. He seemed to not comprehend that we were a little ticked off that they would just install someone else's carpet in another customer's house knowingly. His bad attitude and lack of general courtesy just made the whole situation worse. Ultimately, the carpet was installed the following weekend and we are happy with the quality, but in terms of customer service and good business practice, I would never recommend them to anyone. Their price was good, but not good enough to make it worth all the hassle.

Wow I used Empire for 4 bedrooms, 1 hallway and stairs and paid less then $2000. The thing is you need to negotiate, they came down A LOT in price from the original quote

My experience with Empire was not great, I didn't like the guy that came to the house and he quoted me almost $10000 for wood laminate for 4 rooms. that was the 40% off price!Chat Icon

went to Home Depot and got the same thing for $6500
