Anyone CIO without intervals?
Hi Ladies- Me again...you know, the one who hasn't slept in 6.5 months because my DS wakes EVERY night from 2 - 5x a night. As soon as I give him him paci he goes right back to sleep. Anyways, I picked up Weissbluth again this weekend and he suggests for babies that had been colilcky (yes, my DS cried non stop for 3 months) to let them CIO, meaning put them to bed, shut the door, and don't go back in till morning. I am really scared to try this as my son can HOWL for what seems like hours, but nothing else has worked thus far. I know he can self soothe for naps, and when we first put him down at night, but its the middle of the night that he can't settle down without the paci. Has anyone tried this method and did it work??

Re: Anyone CIO without intervals?
Yes, we were very late in the game when we did this - 14 months - BUT we had to do it that way, cuz seeing us would make them cry/sream louder and longer. So for us, this was the only option (closing the door and not going back).
Thankfully, it didn't take more than 2 nights.
I totally know what sleep deprived means!

Tracey-
How did you do it with two kids in the house? My DD is 21 months old and sleeps through the night but I'm afraid if we let my DS wail all night he'll wake her up. Then I will have two kids awake and crying in the middle of the night and I might have to shoot myself!
TIA!

Re: Anyone CIO without intervals?
As you know, I am having the same issue with my DS. Lucky me, he was never colic but he now has this bad habit waking up crying for his paci and going back to sleep after I put it in his mouth.
I am going to try to let him CIO. Let me know how it goes for you!

Good point - we are OOS this weekend for a wedding so I've got at least another week of this. YIKES. Good luck if you decide to try it this weekend. I'll be waiting for the verdict.

We did it that way. My son would get more upset when I went in so it was pointless. 3 nights and it was done.

Well, that was the hard part - they share a room (which is why it probably took us even longer to try this) They either both cried, or one slept right thru it. It didn't last long though. We also have an older 9 year old son who slept thru everything! Do yours share a room?

Re: Anyone CIO without intervals?
Yes I did this at 4-5 months and it worked like a charm...now My girls are 13 months and they go to sleep by 7pm and wake up 7:30-8. If you don't do this now you will never get sleep. It is going to suck at 1st but stick with it and i promise within a couple of days your DC will sleep through the night. I think it's very important to have your DC fall asleep on their own.

Re: Anyone CIO without intervals?
when we started letting Jack CIO we would go in to soothe....It made it SO much worse. Like starting all over again but he would get even more worked up than last time. We stopped going in and after a week (and each night's crying getting progressively shorter...40 mins, 30 mins, 20 mins, etc) he goes down now without a peep!!! I found the biggest trick is to find that "window" of tired before he becomes too tired. Like right when your DC starts rubbing the eyes and indicating being tired....put them down immediately. Good luck

I could have said the same thing. I did it early around 3 months and he has been the greatest sleeper ever since. I just put him in his crib at 6:30 he goes right to sleep and doesn't wake up until 7:30. It was hard the first few nights, but so worth it-for us and him.

If I go into the room now when she's crying, it basically takes us back to square one. That being said, she rarely cries unless somethings wrong now. I started with the whole go in every few minutes thing, but it was pointless.

Re: Anyone CIO without intervals?
My dd is five months...we started last week. Luckily, she never cried for more than 45 minutes. She has woke up in the middle of the night and I let her cry it out again. Once I shut the door, I didn't go back until the morning. So far she is sleeping so much better and napping better too! Good luck!!!

I found going in made it 10x worse. Our ped also said close the door and don't go back.

Re: Anyone CIO without intervals?
Yes. YES YES YES. Going in at intervals with my daughter (who was supremely collicky the first 6 months) only made it worse, so when we implemented CIO, we had to just close the door and that was it. FIrst night was bad, second not as bad, by the third, she was sleeping through
