Re: Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

Thanks everyone. I guess it's not so uncommon for a 3 year old to not be potty trained. I may do what some of you said, wait till she seems ready instead of forcing her. Ill see how the pull-ups go when she starts preschool!

When my DS was about 2.5 we tried training and it was a disaster - never did it again. We'd just ask him twice per day (when he woke up and right before bed) if he wanted to try to go on the potty and if he said no, no big deal. One day when he was 3.5, he woke up and said he wanted to go on the potty and he did. From that day forward, no accidents, no problems with pooping on the potty, no whining or complaining or crying - it was the easiest, stress-free method for everyone.

I don't really believe in training. When they are ready, they will do it. It makes it easier for them to know when they have to go instead of trying to force them. Show them what to do and ask them if they want to do it and someday they will. As my pediatrician said, he's never seen a high schooler in diapers.

ITA agree with this. Like I've said, I think that's why it was easy to train my DD.........we waited a long time until SHE was ready and the whole potty thing was a cinch. Follow your kids cues, makes everything so much easier. Chat Icon

My DD Will be 3 9/16 and she is not done yet. We had a pretty good day today. She wore underwear all day and didn't wet them until 5:30. I am not stresing. She has 3 big brothers and they took until 3.5. It eventually clicks and they go. I feel like today is a turning point for her.

Do you mind if I print this and send it to everyone who is pressuring me to PT my twins ? Theyre 2y8m and just moved across the country twice in 9 months so I' m giving them and myself some slack on the subject for a bit. I am dreading PT !

Dd#1 didn't train until 3.5. She just wasn't ready. She would try really hard. But I think had a small bladder so she went a lot. She would try but get into playing and "forget". The 1st day shd would stay dry, then day 2 3 accidents, day 3 -6. Then she gave up. But she would stay 100% dry with pull ups. Just an issue with underwear. I backed off each time. Then one day she said mommy I am ready and that was it. She was dry no accidents on day two. By weeks end night trained as well.

Dd#2 trained very quickly but at 26 months. She did it bc she wanted to swim on our cruise and they did not allow swimmies. I believe you can try and force it but for many they will do it when they are ready to. When they are ready they train fast. I have seen the same with friends kids.

We did 3 day pt at 3years old and it was an epic fail. She completely regressed to the point she wouldn't even go into the bathroom. At 3.5 she just walked in, sat down while I was in there and went. Poop was hard so we bribed her with hershey's kisses. For every poop she got a kiss and we did the poppy dance. Now at 3 years and 8 months she she 100% potty trained with no accidents. I honestly believe when they are ready they will go and they don't need to be stressed out by it.

Re: Anyone else's 3 year old not potty trained?

My DS will be 3 in October and has no interest either in PT. He's peed twice on the potty and that's about it. We ask him every night before bath if he wants to go on the potty and he always refuses. So I don't push it, and I figure he'll train when he's ready.
