Anyone else's infant like to lick the water in the bath? -- Also a question about sippy cups and when to start
I was wondering if my child is just being strange or if this is a usual sort of behavior. DD is almost 6 months and she LOVES trying to lick the water as I pour it over her in the bath. She's not drinking water yet (just formula) but she has just started eating (and swallowing successfully!) solids recently so I don't know if it's related to that. When I pour myself a glass of water from the fridge, she also seems super eager to try it.
Is it too early for a sippy cup? I don't even know how that works! Do I put formula in a sippy? Which kind do you start with?

Totally normal. Wait until she tries to drink the bath water. You can definately start the sippy cup. In this warm weather it is great for them to drink water.

My DD didn't figure out the sippy until about 8 months. I would just put Brita water in it and give it to her at every meal starting around 6 months. I eventually bought her the First Years Take and Toss sippy cups because they had no stopper inside which on the other sippy cups were driving my DD crazy because she would bite the top of the cup but she couldn't figure out how to suck to get the liquid out.
The first 2-3 times she "choked" because the water flows right out with no stopper but it made her realize there was actually something in there. After a day or two I went back to regular sippy cups (w/ the stopper) and she drank from them with no problem.

I'm no help on the bath water thing, but DD tries to suck her thumb. If she wasn't covered in soap while attempting to do this, it'd be pretty funny.
We started sippy cups at 6 months. I started with water, but she wasn't getting the whole drinking concept. I put a tsp of juice in her sippy (just enough so it's a little sweet) and she loves it.

Ann is almost 2 and still wants to lick/drink the bath water
She'll bend right over and try to lap it up like a dog!

hahaha my daughter tried to drink it not just lick it! Emmy was 6m in the summer so we started w/the sippy and some plain water for her. It wasn't until about 8 months she started drinking out of it, but she always liked holding it or trying to drink. Water, at 6m, is fine. Just give small amounts.

I started at 6 months with a straw and a cup. My pediatrician recommends straw sippies. It took a while for her to get it - but now she is a pro! So far she has had only water in it.
They sell straw sippies with a part that you sqeeze and a little liquid goes into the straw. You could try that, but I never did because its only useful until they can do it on their own.

Her 6 month appointment is coming up the week after next so I'll ask there about what type of zippy to start with. She loves to lick water the way she licks her veggies, so I think she's trying to drink it - it's really funny!
She's also really interested in my water all the time (and I always drink with straws) so maybe she'll be excited to try it herself soon!
I can't believe how fast she's growing!

Yup! He always did
At 3 years old he now slurps it up instead when he pretends to be swimming in the tub
