Anyone ever been in this situation, DC exposed to chicken pox/shingles but only one vaccine?
DD was exposed to chicken pox/shingles (very closely might I add) and has only had one vaccine at age 23 mths. Does anyone have any experience with this and do you know if a second vaccine (due 4-6 years) would be suggested by the pediatrician? I already put a call in.

My girls were exposed multiple times to shingles. My ped was not concerned nor pushed for the 2nd booster. If it was shingles, we were told you have to come in contact with the rash. Their doctors told them the same. They needed to make sure the rash wascovered, didn't recommend holding the kids.

You might be able to have their immunity levels tested via bloodwork when the time comes for the booster.

Thanks. Rash wasn't covered. Stubborn old people in my family don't seem to think...DD could have had skin to skin contact with it. Also, unfortunately my aunt (has the shingles on her arm, etc), is applying some medicine/cream to it and I am quite sure doesn't wash her hands after touching the blisters. ugh.
But thank you for the info. I am curious what our ped will say.

Ped said after one shot immunity was 85% IF they got it the case would likely be very minor. Have you spoken with your ped to see what they say?

The chicken pox vaccine does not protect against Shingles - it is rare for a child to get shingles but, they could get it - chicken pox vaccine or not. The virus lies dormant in a child that has had the vaccine in the same way as if they had the actual chicken pox.
The chicken pox shot does not guarantee your DD will not get the chicken pox - you have more immunity after the second shot but, still not complete. That said, your DD would likely have a mild case and, honestly, then she will have life long immunity so it wouldn't be the worst thing!

She wasn't asking about getting shingles, but saying her child had been exposed to shingles therefore possibly contracting chickenpox.
