anyone getting flu shots/Swine ful vaccine?
My mom said she read that pregnant women should get the swine flu vaccine. She told me to ask the Doctor about it, which I will when I go next week (my 1st appt).
Just wondering if anyone's doctor has said you should get it? And if you are going to?

I actually saw this on the news this morning. They are advising all pregnant women to get the vaccine.
I'm going to ask my doctor if she thinks it's totally necessary at my next appt too

I was actually going to post this too. Im due in Nov. so Im a little nervouse but I think Im more nervous about a "rushed" vaccine that hasn't had time to be tested!!
Not sure!! I'll discuss it with my doctor. Get their opinion but Im leaning toward.. no!!

i am going toa sk my dr next week at my last appt. especially since i work with kids. I had swine flu in early June and definietly would not want to get that again

Not sure yet. Going to ask my dr at my next appt. I'm due in early December and am not crazy about the idea of getting a 'new' vaccine but will see what they have to say about it.

hmm, I guess we will be discussing this again next week after we all talk to our doctors! lol
how about the regular flu shot? I know the swine flu one is new and untested. But I was reading that's it's also reccomended we get the regular one.
I've always been against flu shots, but I get the flu almost every year!! Dumb me! I actually decided last year after I had it, that this year I was getting vaccinated!

I just asked my OB about this yesterday. I am due 12/8 and will be getting the regular flu shot per his recommendation.
As far as the swine flu, he told me the vaccine isn't out yet and they aren't recommending at this time that their patients get it when it does come out. I guess I'll ask again when it comes out in mid-October.

Yes the swine flu shot is new- but ALL flew shots are new- each year it's a different mix for the strains of flu the docs/scientists think will show up. so I don't actually think the shot itself is "new" but the strain it prevents against is new.
I'm due in December and if there is time, I will get it...

I just went to my OB and she only had the flu shot, which I got and have gotten for 25 years. She said the swine flu vaccine won't be available until october.

Ditto! Not sure if i'm thrilled with being the guinea pig with a new vaccine! Plus being due in Nov. too....is it worth it? eh, probably not.

I went to my doctor tuesday and asked about it. I'm leaning towards not getting it...even though im only about 7w4d.
my Dr. basically said that it is brand new...and there are no studies done yet on pregnant women. It's a little too risky for me

Regular flu shot yes...swine flu not sure. I have asked my regular OB and the high risk doctor about the swine flu vaccine and they both said they don't know enough about it yet and it is not coming out until October. Also makes me a little nervous that they seem to be rushing that vaccine along perhaps without proper testing of it.

that's why i don't understand why everyone's upset that it's "new"--it's always "new"! and it's always a guess to the strain that's going to hit.
i will get the shot if my OB recommends it. if he tells me not to, i won't. i went to the OB today and he didn't mention anything and i didn't ask.

I always planned to get the regular flu shot while pregnant. I've gotten a flu shot every since I had a bad case of the flu. Pregnancy lowers a person's immunity and can make a person more susceptible to complications from the flu. For me, the benefits far outweighed any risks.
I'm not pregnant now, but I'm not sure how I feel about the swine flu vaccine. It's also recommended for children. I'm going to have to weigh the pros and cons and have a lengthy talk with my pediatrician before deciding whether to give it to DS.

apparently if you work in a healthcare facility you arent going to have a choice as it is now law that you have to get it or you can not work in nys... i am trying to see if my md willl write me a note on it.. i have had three allergic reactions to injections and woud prefer not to have one while preg.... while i work in a hosp i am a perdiem, work in the lab (in the basement), and work alone... it is an amazing thing if i see a life form at all... even better if that life form is human....

Thats not true. At least not for ALL healthcare facilities. I work in a Nursing Home and would have heard about this in my position. You have a choice - you just have to sign a waiver saying it was offered and you declined.
I'm definitely getting the regular flu shot - not sure yet about the swine flu.

It is mandatory for me to get the Flu shot. The doctor told me yesterday the Swine Flu shot was up to me so I asked him what he recommended and he said he wouldn't take it if it were me.
I asked why and he said "still too unknown". I haven't officially decided yet.

I'm getting the regular flu shot, I'll see what my ob says about the swine flu vax.
I'll probably get it at least after I deliver. I want to protect this little guy and since he can't get the vax, I figure if the rest of us get it that will give him some protection at least indirectly by reducing the risk of any of us bringing it into our home.

Personally, I don't want to get either. I never had the flu shot and never had the flu and I will personally reject the swine flu vaccine, because as far as I am concerned, it is too new and I don't want to be a guinea pig just to find out that it has some side effect that could harm my baby or myself. JMO, of course.
I know DH wants me to get the shots.

If my Dr. recommends it I will probably get it. I tend to get the flu every year around Feb and I dont want DD to get sick, or myself since I wont be able to take care of her if I do. I normally dont get the shot. I guess I will see what they say closer to Oct.
