Anyone have a master bedroom on their 1st floor?
I fell in love with the colonial style house because I love the idea of having all the bedrooms on the second floor. I really like the idea of having my bedroom away from where I would entertain and keeping it private.
Now, I found a house that is really nice but it has 2 bedrooms on the first floor and 2 upstairs. On the first floor, there is a half bath which would be the bathroom guests would use. I'm concerned that if we have people over and someone is in the half bath and someone else needs to use the bathroom they will just figure they can use the bathroom in the master bedroom which I don't want.
I would never do this because I know how furious that would make me but I can't rule out someone else doing that. Has anyone else had this problem?

We are in a ranch with one main bathroom and one bathroom off the master. We've done a fair amount of entertaining, but even if the bedroom door is open, I have never had anyone go into our bathroom (except my mom and sister, and they know to ask first). I have told people to use it, but some even say they will wait for the main bathroom.

I don't have a layout like that, but growing up, I had a similar one.
My parents would always lock their master bedroom door.

I think it's unlikely that guests will just wander upstairs looking for another bathroom but if it's just a half bath downstairs and you have guests where are they going to shower? If the only tub or shower are upstairs in your master bedroom you'll have to share that with any children or guests using the downstairs bedrooms.

Oh no, the master bath is not the only bath with a tub. This is the layout:
1st floor: Master bedroom with private bath, other bedroom, 1/2 bath
2nd floor: 2 bedrooms, full bath
Any guests sleeping over would shower upstairs in the full bath.

Re: Anyone have a master bedroom on their 1st floor?
my master bed and bath is on the 1st floor...off my kitchen is the guest bedroom and a full bath...that is the bathroom guests use whether they are just using the restroom or staying over and showering...i've had a bunch of people over and nobody ever had to use the restroom at the same time but if they did i have another full bath upstairs which could be used...i wouldn't mind someone using my master bathroom though, but i never had any guests use it everyone always uses the bathroom off my kitchen....
i think if someone is occupying the guest bath and someone else needs to use the restroom they will ask you "is there another restroom", i don't think anyone would just walk through your bedroom into your master bathroom....i usually keep my master bedroom door shut when i have company b/c its off my living-dining room...

I am not in this position but I dont think anyone would go into your bedroom to use your bathroom unless you gave them permission. If you shut the door, I think you will give them the hint.
But what about the other bedroom. what bath/shower will that person use (say its a child)?
