NetGear. If you can, go to MicroCenter in Westbury. They will explain the different types they have based on where you plan to put the router.
ETS: My house is not as big as yours, but the router is upstairs and I use my laptop all over, including the backyard.

Re: anyone have a wireless router at home they can rec?
I am in NC so I don't have access to microcenter (my TV was from there)
We want to get the ipad and FINALLY have wireless in the house & it's all a paid business expense for DH, so want to get one that'll work great!

Same! We need a new router too. We can't stream Netflix with the one we have now.

Re: anyone have a wireless router at home they can rec?
We have the NetGear Rangemax WNDR3700.
When I asked DH which router we have he said "the bada$$ one"
It is great because we can stream Netflix in HD while I am using the wireless on my laptop, and have both iPhones going on Wifi (ok, maybe we need to unplug just a little over here). DH does not buy anything electronic without researching the heck out of it, so if he chose that router, I know it really is a good one.

I've had linksys for about 3-4 years and it has never been an issue.
Works great and I live in a big house.

Re: anyone have a wireless router at home they can rec?
We had a Linksys and it died but it was VERY old. I think the Netgear and Linksys are interchangable for the most part. I don't have strong brand loyalty to either, and they're not that expensive that I'm going to spend that much time researching about it.
Currently have a netgear that supports 2 laptops, 2 smartphones, Wii, Nook and Tivo with no issues.

Re: anyone have a wireless router at home they can rec?
Linksys is a subsidiary of Cisco, which is the leading network company in the world. Netgear is a competitor.
They probably buy all their components from the same manufacturers, so there probably isn't much actual difference among most of the routers.
I have a 3000s/f house, and I have two routers set up. One on each end of the house. That way, I can pick up whichever one is closer, and my entire property gets a really strong signal. I just put them both to the same SID and security codes.
I think the one that came with my FiOS is a netgear (but I don't remember off-hand), and the one that I bought separately is a linksys.
