Anyone have an older child who is always HUNGRY???
I'm not talking babies who need to eat every 2 hours. I'm talking about my 3 and 5 year olds who are eating me out of house and home already!! Seriously, they *just ate* breakfast. DS (who is 5) had two waffles with peanut butter on them (he eats it like a sandwich ) and also had a bowl or Rice Krispies and a glass of juice. DD (who is 3) had mini pancakes, a bowl of Rice Krispies and a glass of juice. They also each had a small banana with their cereal.
They finish and I let them watch a little TV while I eat breakfast and hop on the computer. Not 5 minutes later, they are back complaining they are hungry and want more to eat. At first, I figured they eat out of boredom, but its not the case, its all the time, whether we are home or out, at the pool or at my parents house... food, food, food! They eat well and then complain they are hungry and want more. I just gave in and let them have a cheese stick. Now they are quiet.
While part of me isn't worried since they are growing children and are tall and skinny for their ages, I do have some worries that they will grow to love food as much as I do, and believe me, at my weight, that's not a good thing

My nephew. He is 8 and eats more then my husband. He will eat like 10 little meals all day. And, he is thin. Makes me nuts. When he stays w/ us Im in Waldbaums daily. He loves fruits and veggies and real food. Im amazed at what he can consume.

Re: Anyone have an older child who is always HUNGRY???
My 2, ages 4 and 5 are the same. Every week I buy a big vegetable platter at the supermarket and break it down into individual serving in baggies. Whenever they are hungry during "off" meal times they are welcome to a veggie bag, apple or banana. It took a while for them to get used it it, but now it works well. If they are truly hungry they will eat what's offered, if they don't I know they were just in the mood to snack!

Glad I'm not alone!
Ms. Brat ( ), that's a great idea. They eat good food, not junk, which is a blessing. They usually ask for a cheese stick, a pack of slices apples, baby carrots with dip, yogurt, etc. But I run out of ideas. Every now and then, they get Sun Chips or Cheeze Its
I'm packing lunch for the pool today.... Just seems like I never bring enough! Andrew can pack away 2 PB&J sandwiches very easily!

My kids eat a lot too! I find that if I give them protein they tend hold out longer.
I too am scared how much DS will eat when he's 16!

Well, that's the whole battle!! Keep feeding them their healthy snacks.
When going to the beach I usually bring 6 string cheeses, 4 bananas, 2 oranges, a huge container of grapes (frozen), a pint blueberries (frozen), and a huge container of grape tomatoes, and ALL of it gets eaten! I have to ration it out or they's eat it in the first hour!!!

Re: Anyone have an older child who is always HUNGRY???
Yup yup. Alex got the "I hungry" award at camp this year Several times a year her counselors/teachers ask me to pack more food in her bag. It's rather embarrassing.
She eats A LOT. Sometimes more than me. But I make sure 90% of it is really healthy, and she's not overweight at all. She just has a super uber fast metabolism, like her Daddy, who also eats me out of house and home, and is also built like a rail.
I could kill them I WISH I could eat all that and not gain a pound!

I think deep down that's why I'm complaining! I used to be just like them - eat a ton and be super thin.... Until I had them, then everything just went in reverse. The weight piles on and doesn't come off!
Jenn, LOVE frozen grapes here. My kids eat 3 lbs of them a day! Never tried the frozen blueberries, that sounds good too!

Re: Anyone have an older child who is always HUNGRY???
I wish my DC (6 and 3) "only" ate as much as your DC... There are some nights where DS will eat 4 full slices of pizza (I have 3), and DD will often have 2... Almost the second DS is done with a meal (sometimes before he's done), he's asking when snack time is....
My thoughts are that if we let them eat what they want when they want, they won't have any food issues. I think that putting too many rules and guidelines on food is what potentially causes problems later on.
At least I hope that theory works out.....

Re: Anyone have an older child who is always HUNGRY???
Yes! Jack literally is chewing his last bite and tells me he is still hungry. We go through more waffles, cereal, fruit snacks, apples etc in this house! I'm not too worried becuase they are never snacking regularly on junk, but I too am worried about my grocery bill. The kid isn't even in kindergarten!
Molly on the other hand, eats next to nothing. Today she has probably had a handful of cheerios, a few cups of milk and a morsel of lunch. And she is only 5 pounds less than Jack.

Trish, I'm so there with you. Esp with my 5 yr old! Girl can eat!! I am often surprised at what is not enough food anymore as they are getting bigger. I can not imagine having 3 teenagers someday.
