DH went to Walmart. He said most people still had masks but he did see a few without. I think as time passes and the summer comes into full swing we will see less and less people with masks.
I hope so as if the numbers stay this low there is no reason not to.

Anyone in NY gone to a store today
My mom is currently fighting leukemia, so I will remain masked for her. It's the only way I'll allow myself to go over to see her. She's basically getting treatments that destroy her immune system, so I stay masked when out running errands and at her house when I visit.

Re: Anyone in NY gone to a store today
The small stores near me are still requiring them. I didn't go to Target & Trader Joe's yet.
I haven't heard about other chains that I will go to this weekend, Homedepot, Stop & Shop, etc
A restaurant I follow on IG just posted that masks are not required, but they "strongly enourage " them in inside, and staff will stay masked.
Sicne it is up to the private establishments now, If I was in charge of a store I would require them for another month or so because there are probably still employees who are mid-vaccination process (since it has only been a month or so since elligibilty became open to the public and vacciantion can take up to 6 weeks if you Moderna) and wearing a mask around maskless people isn't as protective as everyone wearing a mask.
I am probabaly just biased though, because I have a relative in that position.

Re: Anyone in NY gone to a store today
I went to the mall. Everyone had masks on. Old Navy made an announcement masks were required. I walked into Trader Joe’s with out a mask and had no problem. There were two of us with no masks. Costco had employees and customers without masks on.

I hope no one questions you or gives you a hard time. Many people have reasons for continuing to wear a mask and no one should question them. I've seen so many posts on social media asking why anyone is continuing to wear a mask, and implying that they are stupid, wrong, ignorant etc for doing so. It infuriates me. I really don't understand why so many people are so worked up over someone else deciding to wear a mask.

I went to Target it in Bay Shore today without a mask. Almost everyone had them on. One employee didn’t. I was asking her about it. She said staff was notified by corporate that they are not allowed to ask anyone’s vaccination status.
Went to King Kullen, security stopped me and said I needed a mask. They were insistent until I left my cart and was going to leave then they said I can stay and shop not to worry about it. Someone else stopped me in KK and I said security said to stay without a mask and they just kind of shrugged their shoulders and walked away. Someone in the snack aisle who was double masked and wearing gloves mumbled something but I carried on.
Panera no issues at all.
stores are allowed to still requests customers to wear masks.
Listen I’m all for getting rid of masks but if a store is still requiring it I would still listen no need to start an argument over it. It’s not the end of the world to wear it.
Are you vaccinated? I’m not but I did have it recent enough that I would think I can walk around maskless so I probably will but I definitely won’t hesitate to put it on if asked too

Re: Anyone in NY gone to a store today
Hubby went to CVS and the sign says they recommend you wear masks. Which means you don’t have to. My friend said she went to a few places and many were maskless. Thinking maybe this weekend we will see more since many were working or at school and some don’t even know about this. Once people start seeing others, I am sure it will be a chain reaction. No one wants to be the first.

Honestly, you're more likely to get questioned or judged for not wearing one. It's not like she'll be the only person still wearing a mask. 95% or more of people are still wearing one I'd say

Yes, for now. But I'm seeing so many posts asking "why is anyone still wearing a mask" with all kinds of negative implications and responses. Heck, I saw an older guy driving in a convertible with the top down, wearing a mask - I have no idea why, but it's none of my business and whatever works for him. I just don't understand people getting worked up over someone choosing to wear a mask (and many seem to be)

Exactly. Who cares?? Wear a mask. Wear a top hat and cape. Walk around Target in your damn wedding dress. Why does anyone give a sh*t?

Of course to each their own but if people don’t want to rip off the bandaid, and that is including businesses, we will never be able to get back to some normalcy.

Exactly and we will never get back to normal if people just don’t do what is best for them. If a store says it is your choice, then leave it up to the individual. I feel that many are vaccinated though and are still afraid and trying to tell others that they should be in fear too.

I've only seen one maskless person in Stop & Shop and he looked like he was ready to fight. He was grilling everyone who glanced his way and no one said boo to him.

You are 100% missing the point. Some people CAN'T rip off the bandaid - and it's no one's business why. Some people don't want to rip off the bandaid - again, no one's business why. NOT wearing a mask affects those around you - and that's whey people cared. Choosing to wear a mask, even if no longer required, impacts absolutely no one other than the person making that choice.

ITA that ripping off the bandaid is not for everyone. That I will agree with. I don’t get how low the numbers people want them get though. We are under 1%.

I don’t understand why so many are so bothered by those who want to continue to wear a mask. I actually encourage my in-laws to due to pre existing conditions. I don’t care either way what people do....Keep your opinion to yourself, no one is going to change the way people feel at this point. I’ve come to this realization now....worry about yourself.

Why do you care? Maybe some people will decide to always wear a mask (and cape as someone mentioned), no matter what the numbers are, when in public. WHO CARES? (Aside from you)

Heck, I saw an older guy driving in a convertible with the top down, wearing a mask - I have no idea why, but it's none of my business and whatever works for him. I just don't understand people getting worked up over someone choosing to wear a mask (and many seem to be)
Of course to each their own but if people don’t want to rip off the bandaid, and that is including businesses, we will never be able to get back to some normalcy.
Why do you care? Maybe some people will decide to always wear a mask (and cape as someone mentioned), no matter what the numbers are, when in public. WHO CARES? (Aside from you)
I don’t care if you wear it forever but understand the vaccine you got and why you got it. It WAS to not have to wear masks also.

My mom is currently fighting leukemia, so I will remain masked for her. It's the only way I'll allow myself to go over to see her. She's basically getting treatments that destroy her immune system, so I stay masked when out running errands and at her house when I visit.

Perhaps this is the new normal for many? Many cultures already wear masks out in public anyway, prior to the pandemic. My significant other lives in Flushing, and it was very common for me to see masked people prior to all of this. Live and Let Live. Wearing a mask has no impact on you or any business.

ITA but the fighting that is happening is just wrong. Again, worry about yourself.
Everyone (myself included) need to just accept that people will have different opinions. You can’t change people opinions. We can ask that people just listen and maybe understand WHY they feel a certain way. Accept it. And move on. Don’t try to force them to feel the same way. I’m working on it.

Agreed and I hope this doesn’t turn bad for people in stores and other places no matter your choice.
