My mom is currently fighting leukemia, so I will remain masked for her. It's the only way I'll allow myself to go over to see her. She's basically getting treatments that destroy her immune system, so I stay masked when out running errands and at her house when I visit.
I hope no one questions you or gives you a hard time. Many people have reasons for continuing to wear a mask and no one should question them. I've seen so many posts on social media asking why anyone is continuing to wear a mask, and implying that they are stupid, wrong, ignorant etc for doing so. It infuriates me. I really don't understand why so many people are so worked up over someone else deciding to wear a mask.
Honestly, you're more likely to get questioned or judged for not wearing one. It's not like she'll be the only person still wearing a mask. 95% or more of people are still wearing one I'd say
Yes, for now. But I'm seeing so many posts asking "why is anyone still wearing a mask" with all kinds of negative implications and responses. Heck, I saw an older guy driving in a convertible with the top down, wearing a mask - I have no idea why, but it's none of my business and whatever works for him. I just don't understand people getting worked up over someone choosing to wear a mask (and many seem to be)
Of course to each their own but if people don’t want to rip off the bandaid, and that is including businesses, we will never be able to get back to some normalcy.
We have reached the point we are today because people got vaccinated, wore masks and social distanced. It is because of mitigation. Thank God for that, so we can get back to normalcy. I don't see how my wearing a mask prevents people from returning to normalcy. d

Re: Anyone in NY gone to a store today
So to answer your original question, DH went to the gym today for the first time since the new rules went into effect. He said they had a sign saying masks are optional for vaccinated members. He asked the guy at the desk and he said yes, if you're vaccinated you don't have to wear it- but didn't ask if anyone walking in was vaccinated or for any proof at all.
DH said it was about 50/50 masked vs unmasked in the gym....but he did say that most people walked in with it on, looked around, and when they saw others without it, took it off. So it was definitely a thing where they didn't want to be the only one without a mask.

I don’t understand why so many are so bothered by those who want to continue to wear a mask. I actually encourage my in-laws to due to pre existing conditions. I don’t care either way what people do....Keep your opinion to yourself, no one is going to change the way people feel at this point. I’ve come to this realization now....worry about yourself.
ITA but the fighting that is happening is just wrong. Again, worry about yourself.
Everyone (myself included) need to just accept that people will have different opinions. You can’t change people opinions. We can ask that people just listen and maybe understand WHY they feel a certain way. Accept it. And move on. Don’t try to force them to feel the same way. I’m working on it.
I tried to explain to a family member yesterday as many are uneducated and only listen to rumors that float around social media. They can choose what they want to do but know the truths around what you are saying and why you are making that choice.

The places can’t ask either of you are vaccinated. My gf went to the gym too and she said only older people had the masks on. I think people are afraid to be the only one and over time that will change.

And older people at a place like the gym should still wear a mask, even if every single person there is vaccinated. It reminds me of early Covid days when I had to be the parent to my parents and tell them to stay home LOL

Some older people are healthier and have better immune systems than the young but yes they are most likely to get sick and be sicker than others.

Agreed, I should have said ‘many older people over 65’ not all old people.

Honestly my mom has a great immune system and very healthy close to 80. She also had been going to the gym and being active in other things. It makes a big difference after you retire if you just sit around all day or keep active to stay healthy.

Starting Monday, my kickboxing gym is allowing vaccinated people to go maskless during class. Your mask must be worn when entering and exiting. Plus, you have to show proof of your vaccination.

They don’t have the right to ask you that. It is against Hippa.

Anyone in NY gone to a store today
I think the majority of people at stores without masks (especially those posting pics of it) are people who never truly bought into the pandemic/believed in it/took it seriously and I think the majority of them are unvaccinated with no plans to ever be vaccinated.
Of course not all but the vast majority.
The people who were vaccinated will probably stay masked in stores for some time because they know the unmasked are likely not vaccinated and still want to play it a bit safe.

From what I gathered, it isn’t against HIPPA. HIPPA doesn’t apply to most businesses and is for medical offices and the like.

This is not correct. IF they are fully vaccinated, they can choose what they want to do. Those who are not vaccinated are supposed to continue wearing masks - although as has been said before, we all know that is not going to happen.
Also, there are still places where masks are required: Pre-K to 12 Schools, Public Transit, Homeless Shelters, Correctional Facilities, Nursing Homes, and Healthcare Settings

I'm not responding to argue with your perspective, but I do want to add in another perspective.
I am vaccinated, and I am going unmasked. My immediate family almost died from COVID. As one of this person's two proxies, I have had excruciating conversations and made impossible decisions over the last few months. My family's life has been turned upside down.
My unmasking is hardly a result of not taking it seriously.
I trust the vaccine, AND I feel the CDC announcing that it is okay to go maskless indoors--signifying that this nightmare is on its way out--is something to celebrate--which are my reasons for going maskless when permitted.
To clarify, I don't judge vaccinated people who want to continue wearing a mask because they feel doing so is the best move for their health.

Same has been happening with people criticizing those that don’t wear masks. It’s not our life, we don’t know the reasons why someone is wearing a mask or why someone is not wearing a mask. We shouldn’t judge them because it’s simply not our business. That freaking entitlement of knowing what’s best for someone else needs to stop.

Anyone in NY gone to a store today
I just went unmasked to Shop Rite. Most people were still masked except some older folks. I felt everyone was staring at me but I wasn't sure if it was because I was unmasked or because my cheek is extremely swollen from dental work and I look like a chipmunk (I was debating wearing the mask to hide the cheek but it was uncomfortable).

I went to dentist and Trader Joe’s today, all masked up. Dentist was taking precautions they have always taken. I went to a local coffee shop no one had a mask on except me which I was appalled at but I think this mask thing needs to continue a bit longer until more people have their vaccine that’s my 2 cents

It is 100% NOT against HIPAA (as has been stated on here many many times). HIPAA only applies to medical offices, doctors, hospitals etc. being prohibited from sharing what is called Protected Health Information (PHI). PLEASE stop saying that anything to do with a venue, store, restaurant etc. asking about vaccine status is a HIPAA violation - plain and simple, it is not. No matter how many times you say it is, it's not and you saying so will not change that

Why do you care? Maybe some people will decide to always wear a mask (and cape as someone mentioned), no matter what the numbers are, when in public. WHO CARES? (Aside from you)
I don’t care if you wear it forever but understand the vaccine you got and why you got it. It WAS to not have to wear masks also.
Nope. I got vaccinated to not die of COVID and not have those around me die of COVID. Nothing to do with a mask.

I was just told by a friend who works in a medical office that it IS a Hippa violation to ask if you have had the vaccine or not. No one has cleared that up as far as I have heard.
It is not a HIPAA violation. HIPAA is a law that prevents health care professionals from sharing private medical information without the patient's permission. A doctor's office is also allowed to ask you if you have been vaccinated.

Starting Monday, my kickboxing gym is allowing vaccinated people to go maskless during class. Your mask must be worn when entering and exiting. Plus, you have to show proof of your vaccination.
They don’t have the right to ask you that. It is against Hippa.
No matter how many times you say it is, it's not and you saying so will not change that
Thanks I was going to ask this. I don’t get why people keep saying they’re not allowed to where does it say that you’re not allowed to be asked??!! Cause I am pretty sure it doesn’t say anywhere.
