Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I have a thread going on parenting, but I'm wondering if any mommie to be are thinking of going this route? I don't know much about it- but would DEFINITELY not do cloth only- I like the cloth with disposable liner idea...

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I wasn't planning on it and I hope I don't have too -- its a lot of work!
My mother had to use cloth diapers with me -- I was allergic to the regular diapers.

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
Oh I'm glad you posted this. I have been thinking about this for awhile. They have the all in one types that are just like the disposables, but then you chuck them in the washer. I think it's a little more work, but much more cost effective and better for the environment. I think you can end up saving over $2000/year!!

I was the same! I hope my baby does not inherit this, because it would be nice to have the option. I think if I had a washing machine in my apartment I would go the cloth route. But, I don't and would have to use a service which would mean having the stinkies sticking around all week.
Have you guys seen "G Diapers"? What do you think?

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I've considered it but I don't have the time or energy to keep washing them. If there was a service around I'd do it.

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I go back and forth...my biggest issues are 1) handling the poopy diaper and then plopping it in my washing machine and 2) when out and about the cloths don't seem as practical.
I'll have to do more research.

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
Although I get the environmental advantages........the thought of re-using poopy diapers really freaks me out.
So, I am not planning on using them.

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I did cloth for both of my kids. more than 90%. Loved the soft cotten. I plan on it again. I am also looking to get a bunch that have the diaper and cover together. I think they are called kushies. I found them on walmart.com. I think the disposable liner that they now have will make it really easy to wash them. Mine were always white and clean. Check walmarts site. There are 56 reviews on this product and everyone seems to really like them.

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I am planning on using cloth diapers, the kushies. My mom uses cloth diapers for my 2year old sister. They really aren't that hard at all and I think it will be very cost effective!

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I really wanted to, but DH nixed the idea. Mostly b/c he's the one that always does our laundry!
I looked into the cloth diaper services as well. I still would love to give it a try. It's still a consideration.

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
I don't use cloth diapers out of sheer laziness, but many (in fact most) of my friends do, they are really easy to use and not nearly as messy and disgusting as you might seem. The babies don't actually poo right into the diaper, how it works is that you have a Cloth Diaper (usually Terry Cloth) and a paper liner, the paper liner stops all the poo from soaking into the actual diaper, so when you take the diaper off you strip the paper (and the poo) off and this is flushable. Then you just have the actual cloth to wash and dry in your washing machine. The idea of keeping the dirty diapers in a tub of water in your bathroom is outdated. Our local council here will give you a free trial of cloth diapers as they are trying to encourage more people to ditch the disposible diapers.
Also, the cloth diapers have the most adorable covers!! They are really bulky too! Didn't you always want your little one in green wool pants!!

Re: Anyone planning to use cloth diapers?
Question for those who are or considering doing? Are you going to have daycare or a babysitter take care of your child while you work? If so, do you think they will handle the task well?

This is just from my own experiene, but here all the daycare centres have experience with cloth diapers, they are really simple to use. You just put the dirty ones in a plastic bag. You can leave daycare with instructions to change the diapers every 3 hours (at least thats what my friend does)
Or you can find an environmentally friend alternative, I know I have bought some diapers called Moltex and they are made with recycled newspaper and they work great.

All I keep thinking if using a diaper service thinking about all the chemicals they use and how it would react to the baby skin.

I think diaper sevrices are a pretty outdated idea. Most cloth dipaers today are made to be washed at home and they actually look like disposables (so no pins or folding necessary) and they are actually really cute:

Actually, where I live in Brooklyn diaper services are really popular. Makes sense since lots of people don't have the time to wash or don't have a machine. Also, they hace services that specialize in organic/all natural so no harsh chemicals.
