Anyone pump just once or twice a day?

How much to you pump each time?

We're EBF and DS gets a 4-6 ounce bottle once in a while for traveling or sometimes at a restaurant or for DH to feed him.

I try to pump at least once a day, an hour after our first feeding, to keep up a stash in the freezer. I use a manual hand pump with no problems and get about 4-6 ounces. But feel like I want to do more pumping/stashing. I've just aquired a double electric pump and have yet to try it. Just wondering how often do you pump and how much milk do you pump? DS is 3 months.

Thanks!

I only pump 1x after work and need to supplement with formula. :P

Total oz. expressed is 6-8 for both after 12 minutes of pumping.

I used to use the hand pump but it takes 10-12 minutes per side so have switched to the double pump to reduce the time.

If you want more milk try to get your baby to latch on longer and more often and drink more! Your body will produce thinking the baby needs more.

Re: Anyone pump just once or twice a day?

I typically only pumped once per day, more when it was a workday.

If it was my day off I would typically pump once a few hours after DS went to bed, just before I went to bed. I'd typically get about 6-7 ounces (total) at that age. I'd use my double pump to decrease time. But I was also told that pumping both sides at once can actually help the supply. I'd pump into two separate bags and freeze it for later use.

Re: Anyone pump just once or twice a day?

when my son was in the hospital, i was pumping and supplying breatmilk as they needed ot know how much he ate at any given time. well, i would pump 3 or 4 times a day (when i woke up, when i went to bed, and if i got around to it, 2 other times during the day... i slept 8 hours at night) and i would usually pump 8-12 ounces 1st thing in the morning, and varying amounts at other times. sometimes i might pump 5x, it depended on how often i got to a pumping room in between sitting with my son etc. every 3 hours did not happen, thats for sure. and i had enough supply built up, i took home over 100 medela bottles of frozen milk when he was 6 weeks old. but i had a great supply back then, and had so much in storage i could have fed twins without issue. LOL

I pumped exclusively for 8 months and I only pumped 3x a day, I pumped about 40 oz a day. It may have just been a fluke, but I worked my schedule so my body produced enough milk for the day in those 3 pumping sessions.
