Not to start a scare, but I heard not to because then people know you have a newborn and know you are vulnerable or can steal the baby. I know that is a bit extreme, but we decided not to.
I felt this way too, but my ILs got one for us as a surpirse and it was really a nice thing! Alot of our neighbors didnt realize I was pregnant. They used the vendor from BRU and they were amazing;ly nice, we even got to keep the star with DS's name on it!

I felt the same way when I was pregnant about it being an advertisement, but then I thought, when was the last time you heard a newborn was kidnapped from their house because their was a stork on the lawn? We got one and it was nice because some of my neighbors (believe it or not) didn't realize I was pregnant or they did and this was a nice way for them to find out I had the baby.
ITA. The whole thing about people kidnapping is ridiculous IMO. We did it and loved every sec of it being up
This is my thought totally, and I will prob do something - we have a good friend who is a florist, and she said that she'll be doing something for us...

Also not trying to alarm anyone, but about two years ago, there was a woman who was killed and someone stole her baby because of the stork on her lawn.
Does it happen everyday? No. But I don't know if it is the best idea. Plus its not my style.

Re: Anyone putting a stork on their lawn?
My brother is a police officer. He didn't want us to get one for safety reasons. Not so much that someone was going to try to kidnap the baby, but he said that he knows for sure that some people target those houses to rob. They know people are sending gifts and on any given day you may have a decent amount of cash gifts that you haven't taken to the bank yet.

Re: Anyone putting a stork on their lawn?
nope, didn't get one.
like the PP said, it's not just about kidnapping, but you are advertising you have a lot of "stuff" in your house.

If you feel this way, how will you go about your daily life with a newborn? Surely people will see you going to your car at the mall, going in and out of the supermarket, things like that. Be sensible people.

Re: Anyone putting a stork on their lawn?
I am! I had one with DD#1 and will with this one. I just don't let bad people influence my decisions. I just try to enjoy life. But to each his own!

No, this isn't really our style. I'm sure we'll put balloons out or something, but I really don't want to advertise too much...

Yes we had one. I am not sure about this time though b/c it's extra money that we don't have.
