Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

I want to know where do these people find all these coupons? I can barely find 5 coupons that I need, these people had 100's. They were saying they got meat for cheap, where do you get meat coupons?

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

I dvr'ed it, but to answer your questions:
Where can I get those coupons?
1. Have a subscription and get 10 papers delivered to your house. (Wait my store limits me to 4 coupons per transaction - how can they do that?? Well some stores in the Midwest (Kroger) don't. Also food is MUCH less expensive there than here.
2. There are coupon clipping websites where you can pay for just the coupons you want. You pay for the service of them clipping the coupon.

How do they get meat coupons?
1. Sometimes I have seen by x get y. Like if you purchase taco shells get a $1 off meat of fish.
2. If you read the weekly circular and have a coupon that doubles or triples for an item that is on sale, then you can actually get the item for free or have them pay you to take it. They use that savings to purchase meat.

It requires tons of work. One of the ladies have the sanitation (or someone like that) delivered all the unsold newspapers so she gets a ton of coupons. You could also get a number of internet coupons as well that anyone really can get, but you need to search for them or at least follow several blogs on coupons savings. Also agree with the above poster, food is cheaper and coupon policies seem much more lax in the middle of the country. I would love to see someone from new york do this. They don't tripple coupons here and most stores who do double will only double up to $.99.

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

DH and I watched it last night because there was nothing else on. Some of those people are crazy-spending 40+ hours a week looking for coupons and then stock piling stuff.
There was one woman who only shopped for what she needed that week (which I think is smart) and the last guy bought over a thosand dollars worth of stuff but planned on donating it.
How does the stuff not go bad, and who the hell needs 300 tooth brushes or a 100 years worth of deoderant?
However it did inspire DH and I to try and get our toilet paper for free Chat Icon , especially since a lot of the people had years worth.

I know that after the original show aired last month it was reported on some blogs that some stores were starting to tighten up their couponing policies to keep these extremeing couponing trips from happening.

Its really hard to do trips like that on LI. Most stores are really restrictive and you'd have to have multiple loyalty cards and do multiple trips to get the amounts of stuff these people are getting. But then again, who needs 75+ bottles of mustard?

I like having multiples of stuff we use regularly on hand (soap, toothpaste pasta...) but I can't imagine having rooms full of stuff.

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

I couldn't tear myself away from the show, it was facsinating to me. However, I think after you watch it a few times, it's probably the same thing over and over.

One woman went dumpster diving for coupons. One walked 7 miles a day to pick up coupons from recycling bins, shops where people save them for her, or picking up circulars that get delivered that people don't bring in. Another guy signed up for an online service that sends them to him.

I watched 2 of the episodes that were on last night. In one of them, they said the woman prepared for 6 hours for one of her 4 weekly shopping trips. So this is really a full time job for her, because they also said it took her 2 hours to check out Chat Icon She was the one that had 62 bottles of mustard - I said to DH "I think it takes us like 6 months to go through a container of mustard. Who would ever need that much?"

I think these people have an addiction and probably some form of OCD or hoarding. They also would have to love doing this to spend that much time on it. I think it's great to save money, but for me, I wouldn't want my time with my kids to be clipping coupons for hours at a time, I would rather be doing other things.

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

I think it is absolutely crazy and they end up buying so much stuff they don't really need or will expire. Their house is literally taken over by their stock pile. But I must admit, I love the show and I am addicted to watching it. I will never become anything close to that, but I do love my coupons and savings. I went to CVS the other day and bought 5 items, and with my coupons I walked out of there spending only .09 cents. That was the first time that ever happened to me and I was so excited. But I could never do that at a supermarket, I don't think I have ever seen a coupon for meat, milk, eggs, fresh fruit & vegetable, which are all on my weekly shopping list.

I said the same thing to DH last night -- they are neat hoarders and they are a bit gluttonous!

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

DH and I watched it in amazement. Crazy!

I said they should really donate the stuff they dont need, so I'm glad to hear one of them did.

I'd love to try this with a small shopping trip- but I don't think this works in places like S&S.

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

I think because they have such huge orders, they also get a lot of those "$1.00 off your next order" type coupons and you can use those on meat, etc...they are meticulous about which things go into which orders...it's true, though, there are things I am not willing to compromise on for a bargain..certain brands, foods, etc. and I feel like I would have to in order to do this...

yes! One of them was buying for a food bank, but the other have some sort of compulsion.

One lady had toilet paper under her 2 year old's bed.

Another bought 62 jars of mustard & her husband doesn't even like mustard. They claim it doesn't expire but we figured out it would take us 30 years to go through that much mustard & that 's when DH exclaimed--"I'm not eating 30 year old Mustard, I don't care what the expiration date says!"

Me too. I have never seen double coupons in Westchester County.
I have heard of people getting things for free, or getting money back from CVS & Walgreens though.

I had left the room by then, but my DH had to turn it off at that point! Getting others involved was just too much!

I was watching this show for the first time last night, and saw all their stockpiles. How can they consume all of that food? Doesn't most of it expire by the time they get to their 30th jar of peanut butter?

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

It honestly seems like a full time job, I was watching it with my jaw on the floor. I couldn't get over the 8 lb books filled with coupons! It's a little compulsive to me, I had to turn it off. Amazing that they can pull it off but I don't have the head for that!

I didn't get the gallons of milk that woman bought for a month. I don't know about her store but I am pretty sure the dates on milk in mine are only good for 2 weeks.

I think these people have some kind of disorder. It's not just cutting coupons and saving some money, but these people have rooms full of junk, that to be honest they are never going to use or need. The guy had enough deodorant to last 150 years..and then he bought more b/c it was on sale and he had some more coupons. And I didn't notice any healthy foods, fresh fruit or veggies, just crap.
The only thing I learned is that I am going to pay more attention to coupons now, but I'm just looking to save a few bucks..not get my order for free.

I thought that too when the woman was buying boxed mashed potatoes. Why not save money and make your own?? Most of it was junk that she was buying.

The show just ended up irritating me. I thought that it was going to be informational about the ins and outs about couponing. To me it was just Hoarders the Supermarket Edition. I just can't wrap my head around it.

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?

This show is nuts.

I could spend 6 hours on a dumpster looking for coupons OR I could spend 6 hours WORKING and make more money than trying to save $0.99. Really!

And most stores on LI do limit you to how many coupons you can use, etc.... I dare someone to get some coupons, get 3 carts worth of food (like stuff you REALLY use!) and spend only $2.

Some of those people are just hoarders. They want to recreate a mini grocery store in their own house.

I cannot spend 40 hours doing this. I would make more money working FT AND hire a nanny. Not counting the gas to drive around to save a couple of $$$

The coming Ttractions bug me out. I could never sit through it. Its like crack to these chicks. I dont have that much time to dedicate 4-6 hours a day to cutting coupons, and all so i can get 100 packages of butter?? No thanks.
