Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?
My mom shops pretty similar to this. I do not get as involved.
Most things I but are with a coupon. I use 15-20 coupons per visit on a major shopping trip.
Haven't seen the show but I would like to.

I think these people have some kind of disorder. It's not just cutting coupons and saving some money, but these people have rooms full of junk, that to be honest they are never going to use or need. The guy had enough deodorant to last 150 years..and then he bought more b/c it was on sale and he had some more coupons. And I didn't notice any healthy foods, fresh fruit or veggies, just crap. The only thing I learned is that I am going to pay more attention to coupons now, but I'm just looking to save a few bucks..not get my order for free.
I thought that too when the woman was buying boxed mashed potatoes. Why not save money and make your own?? Most of it was junk that she was buying. saw part of it last night for the first time and I agree. I said the exact thing to DH , I said yes they do well, but they are buying mostly junk and stuff that they most likely won't be using . Also they were buying things bc they had a coupon and could get a good deal.

. There are certain codes on coupon each coupon and if you know how to use them you do not have to use them on the item you are particularly getting it will scan on a similar item from the same company..... She takes a long time doing all that.
This is actually illegal and I was reading online today that some people are accusing one of the ladies on last week's show of doing this and the true 'couponers' or whatever you wanna call them are reporting her to 'somebody...

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?
I know the stores here have rather strict rule with the coupons. For instance king kullen is the only one that double the $1.00 coupons but you can only use 5. And genres a limit how many under a dollar you could double.
I actually tried this one week. It's not worth it. I had to got to 3 different stores depending on what the sales were, and the best I did was $20 worth of groceries for $10 at king kullen but to tell u the truth I wound up with a bunch of junk I likely wouldn't buy otherwise so I don't do it now. Small coupons for what I need here and there but I don't go crazy...

My mom shops pretty similar to this. I do not get as involved. My mom will have a FULL shopping cart and spend $20. There are certain codes on coupon each coupon and if you know how to use them you do not have to use them on the item you are particularly getting it will scan on a similar item from the same company..... She takes a long time doing all that.

This is coupon fraud and its illegal.
Agreed. Extolling this behavior is extremely disconcerting to hear as a coupon user. I must say that our local stores have gotten more stringent with their policies over the past year or two that I've been doing this. The reason for it is that people attempt to redeem coupons on items that the coupons aren't meant for. As a result, stores will not get reimbursed for these coupons, so rather than taking a monetary hit in the future after being burned once, they tighten their coupon policies. It ruins it for the rest of us.
J'aime on Extreme Couponing made a You Tube video of herself doing this at Target (I didn't see the video, so I am just reporting what I read on numerous sites..... according to blogs she posted a video to show how she got all of that Tide for free by improperly using a Crest Whitestrips coupon because the code was the same and didn't beep!). Target is out that money on every Tide she profited off of. If you do an internet search for her name, you'll find a host of heated discussions and some people actually spent time "decoding" the alleged fraud, which people are saying she did in her transaction on the show, too!: bhttp://www.jillcataldo.com/node/16258
My main gripe with the show is that people who think what she did was great and have no moral problem with it will start to improperly redeem coupons and try excessive large transactions. I get that in the beginning people make honest mistakes, but to purposely misuse a coupon just ruins it for the rest of us. I can attest to the fact that there are plenty of fabulous deals to be had by redeeming the coupons correctly within the store and manufacturers' guidelines. To do otherwise is dishonest and will come back to have a negative impact on everyone.

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?
I saw the show yesterday. Definitely excessive behavior. I can't see myself spending 6 hours to prepare to a trip to the supermarket and spend there 4 hours too....not my cup of tea. I always wonder how they got to use so many coupons but very few stores here will let you double your coupons. In other states, you are able to do so. I can't comprehend either buying so many bottles of mustard or storing stuff in my bedroom....definitely a bit of hoarding..... And did anyone see that show....? I was like with the lady that had clothing all over her house.

That article was extremely informative. Thank you for helping spread the word that using coupons in the wrong way hurts everyone. Now I feel better about why I never get my bill down so low. I also feel like there really should be a professional who counsels these people. Who needs 40 jars of mustard? I only use coupons for the brands that we actually use. I also only get a few things at a time. I don't have the storage space for more than that. And really who wants to eat expired things?

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?
Sort of OT... one of the episodes the woman was buying (and I see in the link above) "Buddig Original meats" and its packets, kind of like gravy packets...
what the h are buddig original meats? I kind of want to know, kind of don't want to know...
They look flat, not like the cold cuts in the little tubs in the fridge section; maybe it's just a bad angle.

Who has the time for this, or the space in their houses. Plus, all they buy is unhealthy food. Who needs 40 bottles or soda?

Re: Anyone watch Extreme Couponing?
As a former cashier/customer service at Waldbaum's - I literally feel rage when I hear or see anything about this show. The torture that these people put us through is disgusting. Once you are labeled as one of these "people" management basically flags you and any cashier that gets you KNOWS they are going to get the order reviewed after to make sure you did everything perfectly. So, now you have to analyze every coupon and item, totally annoying the people on line OR risk getting in trouble from your supervisor.

I was watching this show for the first time last night, and saw all their stockpiles. How can they consume all of that food? Doesn't most of it expire by the time they get to their 30th jar of peanut butter?
This is what I was thinking too. Also, all that pasta. If you don't use it, can't bugs get in there, especially if it is in a garage? I guess, I feel it more wasteful than saving because they just seem to be buying, buying, buying, but they don't show them using what they have.

I only watched 15 minutes of this show, but the woman was buying complete junk. All canned and instant food. Not appealling at all.
