anyone's dc have gas/pooping issues on Alimentum?
If so, what formula did you switch to that worked better?
Ds is on alimentum and he was doing really well at first. But now it seems painful for him to pass gas and poop. He often wakes up mid nap in pain until he's able to fart. He seems to have a ton of gas but has a really hard time getting it out.
I just can't believe the Alimentum isn't working well for him (my ds#1 was on it and did great). I guess i was hoping that it was the answer and i hate that i might have to switch formulas again.
Anyone else's ds have this kind of issue with the Alimentum?

my DD was never on alimentum but she did have gas issues just like your DS. for a few weeks she would wake up in the middle of sleeping with gas pains. she was pooping about once every day or two. i told the ped and she said its a normal part of development and she would grow out of it. sure enough within a few more weeks, by the time she was about 3m, it slowly stopped. she does not have any known milk or formula allergy. i think gas is common in newborns, it doesn't always signify a problem. their digestive systems are just immature and they don't know what to do when they get gas pains, they don't know how to expel the gas. i wouldn't rush to change formulas, but def talk to you ped!!
to help expel the gas i would do bicycle legs, pat her back while she was laying across my legs, or occaissionally used gripe water or mylicon.

3 months? I can't do this every night for 3 months. I do bicycle the legs. But it's like all night he's in pain from it and can't sleep sometimes because of it.
ds is only 11 days old.

If Alimentum isn't working for your DC then it might be time to go with a Rx formula like elecare or neocate. I would call the dr. asap to see if you can switch over right away.
Did the baby have those same symptoms before Alimentum? If so, then it's very possible that the alimentum isn't helping.

Actually yes he did when he was on Enfamil. THen when we switched to alimentum, he was doing great for a few days and had no problem with gas. Now he does again.
Just not sure if it's the formula or reflux kicking in.

Can you have the dr. test his poop? They did this to DS in the office, it was really quick and they saw right away that he had an allergy, Alimentum worked/works for us -- If the baby seems like he is in pain I would call the dr., they can always give you a sample can to try out of the other formula.
Hope ur little guy feels better. It's so tough when they're having formula issues, but he'll be ok!

already done and it was negative for a milk allergy.
I guess i'll call the ped office in a bit, unfortunately it's just the NP that is there. Our ped is on vacation until monday.
