Are there private special education schools?

If you're not happy with you districts special education do you have options on long island? Love my sons preschool teachers etc wish they continued past 4 year preschool. Are there options in case your school district lacks on special needs?

There are, you have to pay for them, unless you fight your district, and they are really expensive. Gersh Academy comes to mind. I think there is another one in Westbury.

I don't know much about them, but I have heard of Arthur E. Premm in Oakdale, James E. Allen in Dix Hills, and The Jefferson School in Port Jeff. DDI also has a young Autism program.

Gersh academy is not a state approved private school so NO district will pay for it.

That is the link to the schools approved for private schools - however, to get a private school, you would need to demonstrate that a private school is the most appropriate least restrictive environment for your child.

Was your DC evaluated and approved through CPSE? If your child is approved for Program through CPSE it is your choice what school they go to. if your child just received SP through CPSE they may not be eligible. Building Blocks, DDI and Variety Child are the main programs I recommend when my EI children are moving to a CPSE program. In order for the County to pay, they will need to deem them eligible for a program. feel free to FM me for more info.
