Are you a shoes on or off household?

My whole house is tile and wood floors. It takes forever to clean and frankly, I hate spending hours every week vacuuming and mopping. I was thinking of putting a basket in the entryway for us to take off our shoes when we get home, but is this tacky for guests? Or do you allow shoes when guests and friends are over?

We allow shoes in our house. I personally think it's rude to ask your guests to remove their shoes, but I do remove my shoes at others houses if that is their house rule. I just don't like it.

we are very lax when it comes to shoes, but I don't have carpet. My MIL has carpet and every time we go over there she is anal about us taking off our shoes.

Are you a shoes on or off household?

We were always shoes on, didn't care. Since having dd we are a shoes off house, especially when she was a newborn/infant and crawling.

Now every so often I keep my shoes on if I need to run and do something. We have mats by the door and we, and guests, take their shoes off at the front door.

We take our shoes off. I just prefer to walk around barefoot, I don't ask my guests to remove their shoes.

Off, if we are having a party or someone like my grandfather over, I do not ask for shoes to be removed - but then I clean the floors just about immediately after. If my mom or friends are over, they know that we are shoes off, and we have a basket at the door that you can leave your shoes in. I grew up shoes on, but it totally grosses me out now, 7 years living shoes off.

We are a shoes off house, and most guests take their shoes off when they see the basket. I do have guest slippers in a few sizes for people who want them.

I hate removing my shoes at other peoples houses. I will do it but I think its weird.

I find it weird to go to a dinner or something and everyone is standing around in socks.

Shoes off. We keep our floors clean. It may be cultural but I can't imagine the same shoes outside going all over our floors.

Re: Are you a shoes on or off household?

Off, and our closest family and friends usually take their shoes off when they come in, not because they are asked but just because they're comfortable doing so.

But when we have parties, we don't ask people to take their shoes off...the only exception being if it's snowing bad outside. No matter how well you try to dry off snowy shoes, they still drip all over the place. I don't think people minded when I asked them that? It was a casual party anyway, just chilling at the house with food and booze.

we take them off @ the door but dont really enforce on guests and soemtimes wear them around the house. our basement rugs r gross so we always wear them to go downstairs. and out the back door.

basically we just try to minimize wearing them.

Same here. Friends who are over often and/or people who are comfortable with it take their shoes off, but we don't request outright.

Always shoes off.. on occassion, I walk around in shoes after I get ready but its never the norm. Our guests also remove their shoes, I actually never had to ask anyone.

I try to enforce shoes off with dh but he always "forget" or "just needed to grab something" etc! So annoying because he works in construction and when he's home he's always working in the yard and I get sooo much dirt on my floors I can't keep up! So I don't enforce with guests at all.

My sil does though, and calls people out if they walk through her house with shoes lol

Eta: I was told when I was younger it was rude to ask guests to take their shoes off, but that might have just been my moms thinking.

Same here. Although many of our friends take off their shoes when they come over since they have a no shoes rule as well.

I would like to be a "shoes off" house and am working towards that. I just have to move some furniture so I can put the bench and baskets by the front door.

I will not ask guests to take their shoes off unless they are staying with us.

Re: Are you a shoes on or off household?

Shoes off. I grew up like that as well. I am the cleaning lady in the house and always mopping and vacuuming my floors. LOL I'm insane though.

As far as friends go we don't say anything, but they take off their shoes anyway. Most of them also have a shoes off house as well.
If we have a party we don't enforce the shoes off, but if someone wants to go upstairs I ask that they take off their shoes.

Off. This is a regional thing, because where I grew up (midwest), everyone took their shoes off in a home. I think it's common courtesy to be honest. Look at all the nasty crap on the bottom of shoes.

This! In fact, I try to rarely go to one friends house because she makes everyone take their shoes off. I find it incredibly rude.

We don't wear our shoes in the house. If we have people over we don't ask now unless its the sitter who is here all day. We did back when my girls were crawling and will when the next baby crawls. We have all wood.
